I've got my fathers funeral next week and his wife has asked people to wear something colourful shirt or tie as my dad liked color and wore pretty bold stuff bright greens / reds etc. I'm the opposite and only tend to wear black, blue or shades of blue, I have no idea what colors go with what. I'm carrying the coffin so need to wear a black suit but what color shirt / tie is colourful that will go with a black suit and won't look odd ?

thanks

Anything if you're wearing black. Maybe pick a nice red.

White shirt, colourful tie. Surely the whole point is that it's colourful, not conforming to some invented concept of what goes with what.

If it was my dad, and he loved colour, I’d get the craziest multi coloured shirt I could find.

Absolutely and/or a rainbow tie.

Sorry for your loss. Anything goes with a black suit. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and reminds you of happier times with your dad.

This appears to be his dilemma, although I'm struggling to fully understand why it would be. His comfort zone is dark. muted colours. Surely the thing to so is remember it's not your day, it's not a bloody fashion show, it's a nice thing people are doing for the deceased, so suck it up and wear something bloody colourful, whether it makes you feel comfortable or not. Whatever it is, you'll be more comfortable than the bloke in the box has been recently!

These threads make me seethe. I don't really believe the OP can't work this out for himself, he's just decided to seek some attention for his drama. PH is getting more like the bd child of Mumsnet and Hollyoaks by the day!

If your Dad liked bright green then go for bright green

I wore one of my grandads blue flowery shirts to his funeral, looked a bit odd on me as it didn’t fit well but he would have appreciated it I think.

Wear whatever, just do it for a good memory to remember him from.

As big and as bright a shirt / tie as possible. Even better if you can get a jacket with a lining or braces etc for the wake afterwards. Sorry for your loss, keep your chin up beer

if they want colour then wear anything but black.

I'm in my early 30s. my first ever funeral earlier this year was a friend who passed at the age of 30. the mum told us to wear colour and no need to be formal. nobody came dressed in black. i wore white trainers, the brightest jeans i had, a bright shirt and a bright tie. the tie was a south park tie and everyone liked it cos the person was a fan of south park.

Bloody hell, he has just lost his old man cut the bloke some slack.

Sorry for your loss op, I would feel very similar to you I don’t like bright colours either. I think I would just wear a bright tie.

Is there a colour associated with the cause of his demise?

I was at the crem for my Uncle the other week and the funeral before featured a lot of orange in the form of ties and scarves, it was because the woman had dies from dome disease or another and orange has become the colour associated with it.

That way you could wear a tie of the appropriate colour and not a whole outfit.

Nah nah, it just encourages hopeless individuals who can't wipe their arse without consulting social medja.

Wear what you want dude, there are no rules for funerals, as long as you are there.

Hope it goes as well as it can. If you're not comfortable with an orange suit and shoes, just go for something that catches the eye - bright coloured pocket square or a bright lapel flower. Don't dye your facial hair, it's never a good look. smile

White shirt and a nice colour patterned tie. You want to feel completely comfortable, not feel self conscious on such a sad day.

Buried my Dad last month. It was a formal attire affair which was very much him. He liked to be "proper" and some of that has rubbed off on me so I'm always uncomfortable breaking with dress traditions.
However, in this case I might go with a brightly coloured tie and a complimenting buttonhole if the idea of a Hawaiian shirt isn't appealing.
