Anyone of have a real life experience of one of these? I'm looking at 2013/2014 models.

Looks like an interesting mix of sensible and daft for an oil burner.

Thanks in advance.

Love mine (SQ5 Plus 2016), I wouldn’t describe it as sporty (it’s a truck at the end of the day) but it is quick, refined and handles (for a truck).

Returns ~35mpg, can return 40+ on a gentle run. Gearbox is smooth and pretty quick. Engine pulls and pulls. Incredibly stable and especially so in poor driving conditions. Good sized boot (even better with sliding rear bench seat). Very comfortable cabin. Tech is outdated but if you can live without apple CarPlay/Android Auto and make do with Bluetooth plus Waze on your phone it’s perfectly usable.

Mine’s a 2014 pre Adblue,

Lovely thing with plenty of power when needed, but happy to cruise and get 40+mpg. 650+ on a tankful.
As above, tech is a bit old school

Not a massive amount of load space - more in my old B7 Avant

They also seem to be dropping in value, unfortunately for existing owners

I've had a 2016 Plus since new and for me its been a fantastic car. 33 mpg from new, (33k miles on now) and regularly sees 38-41mpg on a decent run ... nice having a few different driving modes. Sounds decent for a oil burner ... in fact its probably one of the best sounding diesels out there and it goes pretty well. Plus gets to 60 in 4.6 which for a mid sized suv is pretty impressive.

Its no sports car ... its heavy and you really feel it when you start to press on ... yes the interior is dated but its actually aged well because its understated. Some of the more glitzy interiors look crap after 3 years!

Its also been a cheap car to run ... 2 x new front tyres (21's so £500 a pair ... rears probably have a few k's left) and a service at around 20k which was £350 ish. Other than that, nothing has gone wrong. It carried two dogs at times and regularly has a bike thrown in the back without removing wheels when I'm off to a race and in March, 4 of us (no one under 5'10", largest 6'5") all with snowboards.

My only concern is what to replace it with in November ... part of me wants to keep it as its been such a good car and I can't really see anything else out there which will provide the same ish performance, noise and space without spending considerably more.

They're bloody good cars; I've sold dozens of them (and bought two this morning).

For all the reasons above they work very well in the real world and aren't boring either.

Blimey, those are all pretty positive!

Thanks everyone, time to go and have a go in one then.

It also seems they can tow too which is a bonus (no, not a caravan! smile)

...and they came with roof bars; they're really versatile things.

BiTDI motor makes towing anything this side of a modest house very easy.
