My integrale evo is having a full body restoration. The engine is also in bad shape.
I have the opportunity to purchase a fiat coupe turbo 16v. It's at a good price and was thinking of buying as a donar car.
Would this be a bad move? I'm sure there aren't that many differences between the two. Does anyone have experience with this?

I've done this but it's not a straight swap. The engine is effectively the same unit but there are a lot of small changes you have to do to make it fit. Obviously the sump casing also the oil pick up pipe. The ancilliary items on the block and head are also different such as thermostat housing, some of the water outlets and also the knock sensor. Just allow several hours to switch over the parts and you'll be ok.
I think I'm correct in saying the the coupe 16 vt engine is only good to go up to around 250 hp any more and forged internals would be needed.
The 20 vt is good to 350 hp and some say more on stock internals. Forge the engine and 500 hp is considered safe with the write mapping etc. There are bigger horse power coupes about though. Think 700 hp.

The cams are totally unserviceable. I'm now thinking this is not such a good idea.
Probably the best solution is to speak with Tanc or Keith about just sending the engine (from Romania) back to the UK and getting it rebuilt or purchase a reconditioned unit.
I was hoping i could salvage more parts from the brake system etc if needed to keep the costs down. There may be too many differences and to detract from stock would not be in keeping. My cheap fix plan could be more problematic than progressive.
Guess I have to bite the bullet. So many projects ongoing.... Something has to give.

That would be practically impossible as the transfer box bolts to the sump of the 16v. Think it will be too long.
Don't give up so easily - it's not just a straight drop in I think with the changeover I took my time and it added an extra 3 days work - you can pick up a good coupe engine for hundreds whearas a rebuild will be thousands.
