Midfield teams (Renault, Mclaren, Racing Point etc)
Discussion
What is the objective of the above teams and the role they place in F1.
Teams
Do they just accept that they can't possibly win a race so are just competing for points to satisfy sponsors etc.
Are they genuinely looking to win. Surely this should be the aim for every team, as distant as it probably is for most.
Drivers
I can't really comprehend what it must feel like signing for a midfield team, ultimately knowing that if momentum doesn't build in your career you could go through the entirety of your F1 career without a single win.
Or are the drivers just happy to be doing what they love and getting paid for it? I certainly can grasp the concept of this, who would turn that down even if it meant not being at the pinnacle of the sport.
I know for some (definitely not all) the midfield teams are just a stepping stone to better things.
How sustainable can it be for teams like Williams to not have any points at this stage in the championship. I feel for the employees and people back at the factory that are probably working their socks off and not having anything tangible to really show for their efforts.
Thoughts?

I can't speak for them but I would imagine it's about the pursuit of attaining success, the drive of competition; an engaging and enjoyable way to spend your time (and money). Success always ebbs and flows - just over a longer period of time than is probably ideal.
Look at Mercedes and Red Bull. These are the latest incarnations of teams that had suffered very long period of baron times in the past.
As for drivers, I'm sure all arrive in F1 believing they can be WDC but then realise that is unlikely, either through lack of access to a winning car or the realisation that they are not quite as good as they thought. But a year or two in F1 does no harm to the driver's rate card in other series. Will Stevens is doing quite nicely for himself in the WEC and Max Chilton continues to bank the $$ over in Indy....whilst having a blast at the same time.

Reading their heartfelt pleas to Real F1 not be sued or closed down (on the legal info page) makes me quite sad - and angry at Real F1 at the same time. Here's something that fans have created to inject a little more interest in proceedings, and they have to beg to be allowed to keep it going.Interesting points.
Whilst I get there's certainly going to be more competitive racing in the midfield, this is the be expected as realistically there are only two (3 if counting RB) teams who have the ability or quality of car to offer consistent wins so the bulk of the racing is going to be done further down the field.
I guess the difficulty for me is questioning what they are actually competing for. Maybe some drivers have accepted that the midfield is where they will settle, whilst others see it as a chance to demonstrate to the bigger teams what they are capable of. I think when the situation is the latter it makes watching a drivers career really interesting, Bottas from Williams to Mercedes.

It's a business. The number one priority for a midfield team is to make money to survive so all the hundreds of people they employ can pay their mortgages. The drivers all believe they could be champions in the right car and being on the F1 grid is the best way to advertise your talents to the teams with the right car. Not to mention the networking advantages being in the paddock brings.

Yeah, cause that’s not going to end up in a lawsuit!!!Kraken said:

I think you've probably nailed it, I guess when looking at it from a business perspective it's quite an easy answer. You see some businesses thrive and others do badly but at the end of it they're all trying to tick over and increase profits where possible. Deesee said:

What's amazing is that even in the comedy standings Williams are STILL running last!

You cold look at any sport and question why most of them do it.
Why do the likes of Southend or Rotherham and similar exert so much effort knocking about the leagues that they do?
Actually this is a pretty bad example as they play in a league that most teams have a chance of success in for the forthcoming season. Why do the likes of Southend or Rotherham and similar exert so much effort knocking about the leagues that they do?
In say league one and two it isn't that uncommon for a team to finish near the bottom one season then win the league the next.
Therefore all teams have an equal chance of success to pick up some silverware and are not disadvantaged by their equipment..

Oh is it? Never even heard of the site before tbh. Is it just a best of the rest with the top 6 taken out?
looks more like its as if the top 3 didn't exist from the numbers, e.g. Saintz would have taken a win 25 points last time out. I'm guessing they haven't worked out all the fastest lap points. As for the legals they don't help themselves by making it so slick, if it were a bit more cheesy they (copywrite owners) might be more inclined to let it fly, lets face it it's a bit of a jibe to F1 just to begin with...

A lot of effort! And interesting in a way. I'm not sure I fully support the say they've gone about cloning the official site style and logo..
Seems daft, F1 can't sue them as such but can shut that site down anytime - then what of all their hard work?
It’s a bit of fun, F1 should embrace it, a bit like the you tuber who put modern graphics on classic races, and classic graphics on modern races, anything that gets people involved should be supported..Seems daft, F1 can't sue them as such but can shut that site down anytime - then what of all their hard work?

I agree. Sadly the legal team will have no such sense of humour.. I do think a direct copy of one half of their logo is a bit much though.
