Both are now coming in at roughly the same price point. £155-165k for a decent spec car with average (for a GT car) mileage

Either one would purely be a weekend or late summer evening fun car with maybe the occasional track day thrown in.

I'm swayed by the wide body of the RS but also the 9000rpm redline of the 991.2

Are associated running costs similar?

HELP!!!

just been asked

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

if you want a manual there is only one choice. if you want to hear 9k revs there is only one choice, if you want better steering feel there is only one choice.

The engine is the heart of a GT3 and the 991.2 engine is amazing, AP stated it's one of the most expensive engines used in todays productions cars over all brands.

I would not want a GT3 if it did not have that engine, for me ownership it's all about the 991.2 engine.

To play devils advocate, I think the gen 1 RS is a really amazing high days/holidays type car. With an eye on the future, if values are something you're worried about, the RS at that price point represents tremendous value...

the 1st batch 991.2 RS are the 991 RS to have though if you want an Auto RS in 991 form and at £200k not that much more expensive.

really you are buying a 991.1 RS for looks alone as the 991.2 GT3 is a better car in all respects with THAT engine.

on a personal note I think both the 991.1 GT3 and RS won't fare well if you only care about values, but does it have to be another values thread :-(

the choice is looks or the better car when push comes to shove, if you want both buy the LG RS at Tom Hartleys.

Basically a 3 yr old RS v a newish GT3.

Whilst PDK S is a great gearbox, if 'manuel' is your bag ( and it should be for obvious extra driving involvement and skill required to extract best performance ) it clearly has to be the GT3 with its excellent gearbox.

GT3 cup derived masterpiece engine also wins hands down if only for sound and higher 9k rev limit never mind it's other attributes over the RS engine.

I'd being going RS, engine still superb, steering very good - a decent step up from gen 1 GT3, a great package.

I agree, let's not use the phrase "values" - its becoming a dirty word. In this context I mean bang for buck. Or smiles per dollar.

If you're in the lucky position where the jump to 200k means nothing to you then of course you'd take a gen2 RS.

If not, which I assume is the OP since he's asking the question, I think the RS is a more special car and represents great val.... uhhh... a great opportunity - considering how few miles a lot of investor types have put on them that are now looking to exit.

At this money its a super robust, serious event of a car that you're going to turn around and take a second look at when you park it up just to admire and think "fk did i really buy that?!"

I would be shocked if us average joes would even notice the difference engine wise. Most would pick the 991.1 gt3 rs over a 991.2 gt3 due to its looks IMO.

The engine is numerically superior but they’re of a very similar blueprint - you aren’t going to notice it unless your drive both back to back.

Op I think it depends what you want to use the car for. I wouldn’t fancy daily driving an RS whereas I do daily a gt3.

Have you driven a 991 RS.1 to make that empirical conclusion ?

Indeed, ignoring the ‘talking up ones own book’ that 911R continues to extol the virtues of having not driven a 991 RS.1.....

Neither is a bad choice at the end of the day and it is just that, a choice.

Personally I’d plump for the RS having owned one and having driven the Gen 2 GT3 at length.

The other aspect to consider of course are the well documented engine issues with the RS.

There's this constant myth about this 'well documented engine issue with the RS'. It's hogwash and mainly seemingly perpetuated by .2gt3 owners imo.

The .1 rs has absolutely not shown anything like the same issue as the.1gt3 and given the numbers in use on track very regularly in Europe, the cars have been extremely reliable.

Well documented engine issues on the 991.1 gt3rs?

Be great if you could provide links to these well documented engine issues which related to the 991.1 gt3 rs or are you getting confused and mean the 991 gt3 which we most know about?

I assume you are aware the engine platform for both cars are the same and they share certain components?

£155k now gets you a beautiful usable 981.1 gt3rs with a two year Porsche warranty

I’m not sure of the original retail price of these but trade values can’t be far off list now?
