Insurance... wha?
Discussion
Ok so I know it's a favourite topic to bash insurance, but normally I'm pretty chilled about it. But this one has made me annoyed.
Done the usual search for new car insurance for the wife, purchased a policy from a supplier, starting in 30 days. Cool.
No documents arrive - how odd.
24 hours late, snotagram arrives saying "details of a claim you made were incorrect so we are adding an additional premium" - what the..
So, I advised a claim against my wife's policy, with me as the drive, where I was at fault. I hit a car and was entirely at fault.
The details I put down were a claim against the wife's policy, dates 13 April 2017, for a value of £1,560 - which is all absolutely accurate as per the correspondence I've kept.
The "amended" details? they've corrected it (loose term) to 28th April 2017 for a value of £1,600.
This amendment (which is b
ks I'm pretty sure) causes an additional 13% premium to be needed to be paid.
What the actual..
The timing discrepancy could be a day of accident vs day it was settled type thing, but I have absolutely no idea how they could justify a premium increase for this. 13% is accurate - but it translates to about £50 in reality, so I'm more annoyed than anything. But the beauty is, even though the policy doesn't start for another 25 days, it's £80 to cancel.
Bugger.
Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed by this? tried to call - office closed etc etc

I thought there was a cooling off period where the cancellation charge doesn’t occur or is minimal. Anyway, it was obviously mis-sold and your credit card company should be able to get all the money back. The insurance company would have to take you to court to get anything from you and it should be an easy defence. I’d refer them to the ombudsman as well.
