2001 Toyota corolla alternator fuse keeps blowing
Discussion
I recently got my drivers lisence and went to get my car ready to drive. I had thr battery trickle charging for about a 2weeks I put the battery in and as soon as both terminals connected the headlights and horn turned on and wouldn't go off so I unplugged it took the horn fuse out and reconnected the terminal. I figured it was my alarm since I unlocked the door with the key I go to turn the car on and nothing no turnovers or anything so I looked it up and found to check the am1 and am2 fuses and the am2 was blown so I put in the spare turn the key and I get alittle turn over and it stops go back to check and it blew then I notice the alternator fuse is blown so I take out the battery go pick one up replace it put the battery back in and as soon as both terminals connect I hear the fuse blow again. I'm not sure how to fix this or how to figure out if i did fix it without blowing tons of fuses any advice would be appreciated
What springs to mind is that you could have charged the battery the wrong way around and blew the alternator diodes when connecting it up, the diodes will often blow before the fuse blows
Now you have a correct polarity battery but there is a short on the alternator that keeps blowing the fuse
If the battery was charged the wrong way it will very likely have damaged other components
