New job, probation and medical procedure
Discussion
Hi All,
Need some advice.
I am starting a new job in 2 weeks but due to a minor medical condition which I've had before (haemerhoids), I will need to book surgery (which I have done privately). Due to logistics and timings, this will probably be done when I've started the new job.
I am on probation and I really feel uncomfortable starting a new job and then already requesting time off for a medical procedure. The employer states they are a mindful employer and they are happy with another medical commitment I have on a weekly basis (counselling). Even though the surgery is on local anaesthetic, and I can arguably go back to work the next day (depending on sedation), it's not a great start.
Any suggestions on how to approach this? I'm worried this will be mark down for me in probation.
Thanks

Thanks guys.
They are fine with the counselling, just expect I make up some of the lost time, which I'm happy to do (10-15 mins over my lunch hour).
I've had this problem 5-6 times and while it is minor, I will probably get things like this again in my employment so even when off probation, I still worry about this (even though I can just take annual leave).

Weekend/evening op?
I can ask the surgeon if he works on weekends but I've had two procedures done by him and they were both on Monday mornings. Friday evening would be good but I will need to take laxatives first so maybe WFH but I will be on the loo a lot.I've had this problem 5-6 times and while it is minor, I will probably get things like this again in my employment so even when off probation, I still worry about this (even though I can just take annual leave).
Your employee is an arse if they don't go with your request, if they probe you too deeply about your private condition, tell them to butt out. You want to be ass-ertive as possible. You don't want submissiveness to rear its ugly head.
Make sure they hire a temp while you are away in case you come back to piles of work.
It doesn't take Sigmund Freud to figure out what your boss is thinking.
