Aston martin are currently revising the brake pads for DB11 in order to fix the brake squeak.

The revised brake pads are due to be available very shortly

Just collected my DB11 from its second service (2yrs 6k miles). The brakes were squealing and they applied the AM recommended fix. Apparently they remove the grease and apply new grease which is a different spec from the factory original. They then apparently do some work on the pads to smooth them and ensure an even contact with the discs and they do the traditional aggressive bedding in process on the new set up. Not sure if this was what you are referring to but it had certainly worked on the drive home. I will update with thread if the squeal returns since it was a bit intermittent before so I cant be sure after 1 run that is has worked.

I have the same problem too and I hate it. Dealership carried out AM advised process, it gone away for few days but it came back. Car gone back in, they have recorded the squealing noise and sent to AM to analyse the frequency of the recording. They have then approved to replace all front and rear brake pads with newly designed pads with new material. They have replaced the rear pads but front pads are on back order and mine will arrive end of September.

Icing on the cake was the opportunity to use their 19 plate Vantage demo for 8 days smile

Care to share your thoughts on that?

Both cars are excellent and they do exactly what they designed for. It really depends what you want from it. I prefer DB11.

Vantage is much more sporty, dynamic and alert car. Its definitely 911 rival rather than Bentley Conti GT rival like DB11 is. I spend time in Berkshire and Islington. When i first got the Vantage i used it in Berkshire for couple of days and i would be happy to live with it daily. It was forgiving enough and i find myself having more fun compared to the DB11. But then went into Islington and i find it too hard when there is speed bump every 200yards, brakes too harsh, accelerator too responsive but still civilised enough to be used as daily.

But when i jumped back to DB11 it felt so much more special and much more of an occasion. In my opinion nothing beats V12 on a GT car. DB11 also so much more comfortable. I have realised how much i missed everything about it. V12 DB11 was definitely the right choice for me.

V8 works really well with the Vantage and V12 with the DB11.

done about 5k miles in my DB11 and not noticed squeaking brakes at all, so guess I've either been lucky or my hearing's gone after years with squeaky Porsche ceramics.

Mine was fine for the first year but then slowly got worse. Of course you can’t hear it with the B&O cranked up ! So far fix has worked but only been out a few times.

Just thought I’d add my own experience on this brake squeaking issue - it was quite bad on mine with loud squealing as the car came in to a complete stop. The car went back to the dealer who apparently did the AM factory ‘fix’ of smoothing the brake pads and whatever else they do. For a very short time this seemed to make a difference but then it was just as bad as before. The car then went in a second time and had new brake pads fitted sent from the factory. This delivered quite a noticeable improvement - you definitely wouldn’t notice if you had the radio on - but I would say there is still a short high pitched squeak just as you stop the car. Although it is much quieter than before and some people might not notice it.

Interested to know if others have had this. Personally I do think it’s a bit irritating to have such an issue on a car which costs this much. You’d think they’d be able to make brakes that don’t squeak when you can buy a car costing a fraction as much which doesn’t have such an issue!

Have any other DB11 owners experienced this issue? My brakes are still squeaking when I come to a stop even though they have had the new pads fitted from the factory. Speaking to the dealer, they mentioned that they have had quite a few cars come in for this issue from London (presumably where people are doing a lot of low speed driving).

It's beyond me why Aston can't fix this perennial problem on several of their models. Mate was ranting 6 years ago about it on his Vantage.

I just changed the 6 pot pads on my DD and I noticed they had quite a loose fitting shiny metal shim on the back. This then had copperslip type grease between it and the pad. I have never heard a peep from them, ever! You can see teh silver shiny plate on the right hand pad, just.

My 'tall beetle biggrin' pads are also chamfered at the leading and trailing edges and if your OEM pads have straight edges this also helps create the squeaks. Have a look at redpants.lol as Rich has looked into this.

Interesting thanks. Apparently the dealer did chamfer the pads too (or so they say) but maybe this is another potential fix. Totally agree it seems bizarre. An Indy I spoke also said they thought AM just had a general issue with brakes for some unexplained reason.

it is the pads aston uses from Pagid, which are high performance, and so squeal. If you drive your car mostly in town, they will squeal. They just need to be used hard for a bit, and the squeal will go away. Find an empty road, and do some full ABS stops. should be right as rain after! after the lockdown of course...

Have you checked the thickness of your discs? it certainly looks as they have quite a lip on the inner edge and outer edge, might be worth checking to see if youre within dimention/tolerance.

Mine is exactly same RobF. New pads are massive improvement so it doesn't irritate me anymore but yes after slow town driving they still make some squealing nowhere as bad as they used to be though.

Any high performance modern car I owned / been in to had similar sort of noise from the brakes though so it is at acceptable level now.
