Auto Finesse Iron Out mini review - I am impressed!
Discussion
It takes a lot to impress me these days. I needed to finally do something with the alloys on my car as I plan to sell in a couple of weeks. They haven't been cleaned at all for around 18 months (!) and have never been sealed prior to that, plus the brakes give off inconceivable amounts of dust - enough to write your name in on freshly cleaned wheels before you've even driven to the end of your street. So I think you get the picture of just how bad they were.
I'd read a lot of debate on a detailing website about the best products with many recommending with Wonder Wheels silver box with brush applicator and black lid, and others saying Auto Finesse Iron Out. I bought them both. The WW was 'ok' but nothing spectacular and did virtually nothing on the hard globules stuck in the crevices, even with much scrubbing with the brush, blue roll, cloths etc. I could see some very small improvements with each application but they were so miniscule that it would take about 50 applications to remove it all. It also refused to remove the brake dust stain lines well which annoyed me.
I broke out the AF and what a difference. Not only are the purple runs aesthetically pleasing to the mk1 eyeballs as you can see it's actually 'melting' the brake dust blobs but on most bits the build up was fully cleared in 3 applications with the very very worst only taking double that time. An old toothbrush to work it in and some blue roll to wipe it up before it dried worked a treat. I was slightly alarmed at it wrecking my wheels when it dries to a grey white 'mess' after a couple of minutes and looks like my wheel has completely corroded away
but i need not have been worried as it easily rinses off with a hose and a wipe round with a cloth
.
My only complaint with the AF is the bottle trigger is complete garbage and gets stuck about 80% of the time, requiring the trigger to be pulled back manually each time but I can live with that minor annoyance for the awesome job it does
.
Anyone else used these products on REALLY heavily soiled wheels?
