Lateral knee pain - ITB?
Discussion
Been going on for around a month now off the back of a prolonged flu.
Sharp pain on my outer left knee/lower part of my upper leg when I crouch or squat all the way down. When I get back up the pain subsides within a few seconds but feels a bit sore.
No swelling, redness but does feel slightly tender when I press down on the region. No real pain, issues or weakness when walking and doesn’t stop me going about my daily routine.
I’m thinking either ITB pain or maybe even some sort of post viral arthritis?

I had Piriformis syndrome for a while, caused knee pain especially when running downhill, took a few weeks of stretches to fix it

I have a nasty feeling that mine may be some form of arthritis that started from the tonsillitis/flu I had. Some days the pain is almost non-existent, other days it can be quite bad.
Anyone on here had post viral arthritis?
You are describing reactive arthritis which is pretty uncommon. It would be low down on my list of differential diagnoses based on what you’ve told us. Anyone on here had post viral arthritis?
Mines been ongoing over 2 years now. I love walking but any ascents or descents, I need a stick.
Stairs can turn me into a 90 year old yet it's fine if I ascend 2 at a time. Going downstairs is worse.
I've had physio and steroid injections but its just not getting better.
Weirdly I can walk for miles on the flat yet cannot run.

Yeah I reckon I probably went over the top with the reactive arthritis self diagnosis.
The pain only really comes on strong when crouching or squatting all the way down. When getting back up, it subsides after a couple of seconds.
Haven’t seen my GP yet, struggling to get an appointment.

I kayaked on the Thames on Saturday for the first time ever. About 6 miles, a lot of it into those gale like winds that hit us at the weekend.
When I got home I realised my constant ITB pain was gone and going up and down stairs was no bother.
Only lasted about 2 hours mind then it was back.
Must of been something to do with my positioning in the Kayak.
Better take it up as a hobby then.
