I'm looking at upgrading from my cbr600rr-5 after it made the decision to be a full time track bike at the hairpin at Cadwell a month or so ago..

Was already looking anyway!

I've got a test ride booked in a couple of weeks for the GIXXER! Anyone that owns one/ ridden one got any info/ advice or pros/ cons to owning one?

Cheers

Dunlop won the TT straight out of the box with one.

I reckon it’s the best choice with price and reliability in mind but arguably if you just wanted the fastest bike a S1000 would be the 1000 to go for.

I have an L8

I'm pretty sure the L7 had a recall on the QS as it would jump and lurch going down the gears

Also the standard rotas I think also got upgraded as the very first batch had brake fade issues

I think they are highly underrated. The engine, chassis and general ergos are excellent and that's where the money goes. The standard front brake is OK at best for road use but I wouldn't want it on track at all

The IMU is very good but restrictive in what you can do. An example is the WC is incorporated into the TC so turn that down and you get less of the other. The ABS can't be turned off and the TC on the fly has to be when the throttle is shut off

The engine is very strong and linear and really revs. The TC I think is definitely the best suzuki have done so far

I have RR as a street bike.

Mine is L7, I had the ECU recall done (the quickshifter problem).

Comfortable as all Gixxers.
Maybe not as quick steering as CBR1000RR SP (tried that one on the same day as RR) but RR is very stable.

I (and not only I) find the throttle on/off response very jerky. I flashed my bike (not bike-specific stand-adjustment, but a "cheapo" general flash, remove Euro4 restrictions in lower gears and remove deceleration fuel cut off), it got better but it is still jerky at times. On track that probably has no meaning anyway, at 5000+ rpm it runs well.

Otherwise, I like the bike a lot.

I replaced the battery with lithium one (-2kg), but one needs 4Ah or more otherwise you will start getting ABS light eventually.

The brakes are not the best, too much free play in the lever, needs RCS19 or something similar. Their power is sufficient for the street, though.

The "upgraded brakes" rumour seems to be just that - a rumour, from one of the youtube videos. I have asked that on US Suzuki forum where also a lot of Suzuki tuners are, checked part numbers etc, there just does not seem to be any change in brakes L7 to L8. Maybe pads.

BTW, in acceleration tests the GSXR1000R was the fastest among them all, including the previous model of S1000RR.

As addition, I watched the extensive Motorrad comparison test from a month or so ago, ALL current liter sportsbikes (V4S, RSV4 1100 Factory 2019, ZX10RR, Fireblade SP, GSXR1000R, BMW S1000RR 2019, Yamaha R1M).
They took these on track and on the roads.
The video is in German, but what they said about GSXR1000R is the following:

1. Very balanced bike; suspension, engine, brakes work in harmony
2. Very strong engine in the middle of rev range
3. Cheap in comparision.

Negative were:
1. Not "active" sitting position for the track
2. Does not stand out in any category, it does everything the rider asks of it, but no more
3. Still not enough top end pull (compared to some other contenders).

Basically they said it is a great bike for the streets, "easy rider" as they called it, very transparent in its behavior, very balanced, forgives mistakes, does not stress the rider out, but for track duties there are small deductions in each category.

The new S1000RR - they said it was very aggressive on the gas and runs very rough (the crankshaft was lightened by 2kg), not as friendly as the previous model, demands getting used to and skills, but the excellent electronic package compensates some of this roughness. Electronic suspension needs more settings (extremely stiff in the track mode).

For track they chose Aprilia, 220hp measured (more than the others), excellent ergonomics for the track, the shape of fuel tank is exemplary, chassis is the best in field, excellent top end power, linear power and easy to meter it out, best time on the track. BUT a pure track bike, on the street many of these improvements are not noticeable (like extra top end power) and one has to be a big RSV4 fan to run it on the streets.

Thanks for the replies, for some reason I put L7 and not L9 (2019?), DOH!

I wont be winning any awards for rider ability so not looking for the fastest bike out, but a good all rounder.. I'll be using it for road rides, Euro tours and stuff which with all the reviews I've watched it seems perfect.

0% finance with a track pack free is what I've been offered.

Will need to change the massive can on the side as well and I like the look of the Yoshi or Akra think they are around 700 for can and 7-800 for headers?

I fitted a yoshi R11. Really tidies up the look with a exhaust hanger

Ridden gently and while running in I managed to see over 50mpg

It's got a very versatile engine
