Hi

94 4.0 pre-serp

After three breakdowns in three trips (twice back on a low loader) can anyone tell me the voltage at the fuel pump at priming.

Primes with live feed from battery; has power at turn of key but only about three volts.

thoughts?

Go back down the line and start testing.
Find and pull the fuel pump relay. (Pin 30 Purple/white +12v permanent supply, Black wire output from pin 87)
Test pin 30 for volts and test with a load such as a headlight bulb. Use a known good earth.
Bridge pin 30 to pin 87 (pump should run) go to pump and repeat voltage/current test. test with known good earth and pump earth.

If test is still bad at the pump go find the connector in the NS 'B' pillar.

That should keep you busy for a while.

Voltage should be very close to whatever the battery voltage is during priming and cranking, there will be a small volt-drop in the circuit hence it is always a touch lower
