Our van's whole front end and, to a lesser extent, other parts such as sides and rear are covered small (1-2mm diameter) black spots.

I've tried Autolglym tar remover and SR Polish. I'm having better results with the polish, but it's very hard work and taking a long time to get any results. I've removed a lot of tar before with clay bars etc and this isn't doing much either.

It's much harder work on the (less well sealed) white OEM paint than on the aftermarket (softer) pastel blue - both flat colours.

Any ideas on better products, or indeed what this could be?

I got a 'pick & mix' from Car Chem which included their G&T remover. It works really well, once applied the tar spots just 'bleed' out, similar to fallout remover.

I've always used AF ObliTARate on tar-spots and it works well.

One thing to keep in mind, since it's a strong solvent you don't want to let it dwell on the paint for long, especially if the panel is hot.

Personally, I dampen a cloth/microfibre towel with it, dab or gently wipe if needed, then spray with water to rinse off any residue, just to be on the safe side!

A clay bar will also work well

I would suggest a fallout remover such as bilt hamber korrosol.

Thanks everyone.

I've had better luck with a fresh clay bar, but still some stubborn deposits remain on the bonnet. I'll give some of the above a go.
