992 Engine Noise nearly as good as the 718?
Discussion
I have not heard one in the flesh, but Janko seems to think it sounds worse than the 718:

I know piston heads love a little engine noise discussion, so thought it might be of interest.

Just posted on the other thread about the 718 engine noise...I really don’t understand the amount of hate the 718 engine gets compared to the 992. Yes it’s F4 so very different from the traditional Porsche F6 but the 992 engine is decidedly underwhelming.
the 992 turbo s sounded alright in testing WCZ said:

That’s very underwhelming in my book.

I heard one set off at full chat. There wasn't a lot of noise - and this was with oval sports exhaust. Very quiet like all Porsche turbos over the last 30 years so not sure what the issue is.
Porsche have finally given the masses a Porshe 959 in their entry level model C4S. Took them 30 years to do so. Not much to complain about in a dd. Who wants noise, machine gun cracks and pops after a hard days work?! No thank you.

It's the GPF, it mutes things down massively. As a current pre-GPF 718 owner with sports exhaust I was rather disappointed with the lack of volume when my car went in for some work and they gave me a '19 plate 718, even with sports exhaust everything was incredibly muted.
I was/am still planning on buying a 992, but I'd be looking at aftermarket solutions to remove the damn thing.

I test drove a 992 C4S last month. It was virtually silent below c6k RPM. Then you get a faint howl. By then you're well over the speed limit. Made my mind up there and then.
Hi MarkSomething was wrong with it - mine is plenty loud enough but the exhaust has to be switched on.
Have to admit though, its not a patch on the DBS!
