Hi guys

I'm looking for some advice on bike sizes, not engine size but sheer physical size of the bike. I have just bought an 04 GSXR1000 K4 after 10 years of not riding. My last bike was a 996 Duke which I got on with fine but this GSXR now seems huge to me. I feel like I'm on top of it rather than part of it whilst riding if you get me.

What other bikes could you suggest me to try for size?

I'm not fussed going down to a 750, would the GSXR750 be the same size at the 1000?

cheers

Same boat as you, are you after sports bikes?

I've just bought a K6 1000. Only my third sportsbike and in the past I have never really got on with them. It's about my 15th bike but most my others have been supermotos or nakeds really.

This time though I'm trying to put as much effort in as possible to make the bike work. It's going pretty well, only had it a few weeks but consciously sitting in the right position especially when cornering. I'm trying my best to get some seat time in too. It feels great now I'm used to it. I'm still not fully confident turning in while braking or off the throttle but this could be down to suspension setup which is where I'll look next.

I'm 6'2" and about 17 stone. I'm pretty sure the K4 is supposed to be quite roomy sportsbike wise with most saying it feels more like a sports tourer. I've never felt like any sportsbike has felt big to me though.

I had K3 GSXR1000 for a season. Could not gel with it either, sold it quickly. It is certainly big.

I loved the K5/K6 GSXR1000 though, smaller, sportier sitting position, generally a nicer bike.
I have L7 now and I get on with it very well.

CBR1000RR, the new one, is small as well, try that one. It is also very light.

Daytona 675R, maybe? It is 675 but pulls better in gear than stock GSXR750 (due to shorter gearing).

The previous S1000RR is big as well, don't know about the new one, but seems to be quite a bit smaller.

Yep only sports bikes. Another hurdle is around the £3500 mark

OK, try K5/K6 GSXR1000. It is definitely smaller than K3/K4, but it feels more "top heavy". I loved that bike!

I know you said 750cc but would something like a R6 or CBR650 give you 95% of what your looking for?

Yep definitely I have been thinking the same. I've only ever had sports bikes, Kwak zx7r, 3 R1's, Duke 916 and 996 and GSXR 1000 K2. Only bike I never got on with was the K2, felt the same, big!
I guess looking back I should have learnt but this K4 is mint, well looked after, looks the business and has loads of nice bits on so I kinda just wanted it.

I really need to sit on a few bikes and see what I like now I think but 600 could be the way forward

your still going to get 95% of the acceleration and top end on a road bike is irrelevant, youll get sweeter handling because of the weight loss and itll be cheaper to run, im actually considering going from 600 to a 300 for the same reasons but im quite a laid back rider.

I could be wrong, but the CBR650 is a bit low on power especially if going from a gsxr1000. Then again it might be a good bike for what it is. The R6 seems a lot better choice if OP is not wanting too much of a power downgrade.

R6 has no thrust down low though and CBR650 is not K3 or R6, then rather Street Triple R.

CBR600RR 2009 ABS maybe? It has good midrange imho.

The MV F3 is small and light. I have a Brutale 800 RR (same bike without the fairing) and it's so light and nimble, with a great triple engine. Well worth a look.

So how tall are you?

I bought one primarily because it holds a reputation for being one of the roomiest sportsbikes, and at 6'4", it fits me like a glove.

I've been there though. It's crap not fitting a bike you like but, on the plus side for you, if you're too small for it, you still have options in the form of just about any other sportsbike. Including the newer, arguably better versions of the very same bike.

Get the GSXR 750.

It is the same frame size as the 600, but with a decent wallop more power.

If you drop from the 1000 to 600 it's going to feel the same as losing two inches from your penis.

I am 5'10", just under 13 stone.
I just feel like the bike is BIG. I'm guessing the 750 would be the same frame and size in general as the 1000 or is it the 600 frame as someone put above?

How do I go about setting it up better? I guess I do feel like the bars are a bit far forward thinking about it...
