Which 'Sports-GT'?
Discussion
Ok, we currently have a 640d, which I'd like to change for something more 'sporty'. I've previously had a 996 C2 and would ideally like a cross between the two ie. A 'sporty-GT'
This is going to be our main car and will probably be the last chance I get to get my 'dream-car' as well.
Having researched various options: 911, R8, GTR, Evora, Alpina B4, Audi RS5, M4 etc
I reckon a 991.1 would probably best meet our needs...
Decent comfort for long journeys
Great car to drive on the way and when we get there!
Decent luggage space for week or two away
Not too expensive to run: mpg, tax, insurance, servicing etc
Won't depreciate too much if possible
I'm thinking as an all-year round proposition, the 991.1 C4S PDK would be the best bet, but happy to be persuaded otherwise - considering the 991.1 C2S or maybe even a 997 GTS if the 991 wouldn't be noticeably more refined, but, from what I've read I think it probably would be.
Others I've considered...
Lotus Evora – good ride quality, but not enough luggage space?...and not the 'quality/solidity' of the 911
Alpina B4 – Could be a less expensive option, but I had a B3 Bi-Turbo before and found the (lack of) rear traction frustrating, hence preferring the 911.
V8 R8 – even less luggage room than the Lotus and worse mpg than the 991
GTR – ride to firm?...high running costs?
Audi RS5 (V6) – High RS parts costs?
M4 Comp pack – Too 'hardcore'? B4 probably a better 'sports' GT?
V8 Vantage – cost more to run than the 911
In my humble opinion, I think the only ones to challenge the 911 (for me) in a 'dream/special-car' scenario would be the R8 or the Vantage.
Thoughts welcomed!
Cheers

Would an M6 be out of the question? May not be as special as some of the other cars you mention but if it's your main car then it might be a better trade off? I'm thinking the 4.4 V8 options, not the notorious V10 unit.
It'll do "some" MPG. Should comfortable when you want it, and silly when you don't. Comes in 5 or 3 door variants too, if you want to take passengers. Used cars seem to start around the low 20's, I'm not brave enough to look at prices new!

I like the idea and does have it's merits, but I'd prefer something smaller ideally. It'll do "some" MPG. Should comfortable when you want it, and silly when you don't. I think if I was going 'beemer' it would be the Alpina B4

Although with a V8 Aston and 911 on the list its a different class of car, Lexus and Infinity also have some coupes ... but again not in the same league.
