intermittent intermittent wipers

Done some very wet weather testing on sunday and am glad to say the Griff only dripped a couple of drips which surprised me considering what the weather was doing outside.The problem was the wipers.On the intermittent setting the wipers were stopping mid cycle
ie stopping in places they shouldn't be, then after a couple of seconds carrying on and parking in the proper position.Sometimes stopped in the same spot and sometimes not.Worked normally on other 2 speeds.Is this likely just to be a dirty contact in the motor and can it be cleaned/repaired or does it mean a new motor.Its on a '99 500 it that makes any difference.

Park switch?? Corroded terminals on it??

I think the water can effect the connections. It's best not to use the windscreen wipers in wet weather.

Wiper park switch
Pax side, just under the bonnet, white plastic switch under wiper motor.
Really easy to change.
Not mutch from a dealer, don't know what car it was originally from.
Seal it all up with silicone when you put it back together (the terminals just corrode).

I'm suffering with this problem now. So, just so I know what I am looking for, it's a switch just inder the cover of the wiper motor which is mounted on the passenger side of the engine bay, yes? Rich...

Had my park switched changed at service time. It was doing this also, OK now.

Me too. Wipers would stop and park half way up the screen then carry on when they felt like it but only a problem when on intermittent.

New relay £22 and now it works a treat. Had a look at the old relay and the circuit board had cracked at the base.

I offered this advice on a very previous thread

There seems to be a couple of problems relating to wipers. One is the park switch as mentioned earlier which gives problems which are different each time. Cleaning things up first or replacing the park switch as a last resort seems to be the answer for these odd problems. A quick search shows me this only costs about a fiver. If the intermittent doesnt work at all or the wipers stop dead instead of returning to the park position when you switch them off it could be the relay which has come loose or popped out. The relay is in the passenger footwell, the second one in from the left and second row down. I've spent bloody hours trying to find a replacement item on the web but can't so it might mean a call to the dealer to replace this little blighter. If anyone finds it please let me know.

Exactly the same problems for me - it was the relay. Sweet as a nut when replaced.

NB Would also recommend Rain X - so as to avoid using the little blighters in the first place!!

Yep, same here, the relay just comes out a little and you lose intermittent only. Just needed a little push to seat in properly.

Presumably this relay is up with the bundle of wires above the battery? Is there any way to identify it? Rich...
