PCN for visiting services twice?
Discussion
I have come back today to a letter from the lovely people at Parking Eye trying to scam me out of £100 for staying in a motorway service car park for 24 hours.
As some of you might have guessed I was actually at the services for around 10 minutes, two days in a row.
In fact I stop there most days on my journey to work so I suppose I'm lucky I haven't been charged for spending 6 months parked there.
I will obviously appeal but am not sure if it will be sufficient to say "Please check your entry/exit cameras for these days and note that I left and returned 24 hours later" or will I need to provide evidence etc?
I don't really fancy having to prove I wasn't parked there all day of 22nd May although I'm sure I could, the fact they waited 6 weeks to contact me would make that harder though.

Do you have a Google account? - your Google timeline on you mobile phone may show your movements for the day
Personally, I would make a statement that you stopped there briefly on two consecutive days and challenge them to prove that you didn't stay there for 24 hours - put the ball in their court

Did you leave via one of the "no exit signs" - some services have exits leading onto a local road for staff and works traffic? The services at Charnock Richard on the M6 are like this - loads of people use it as an unofficial slip road.

Google is a good shout, thanks. It isn't there but I have found a Waze journey which clearly shows a brief stop at the Services
I very much doubt I parked in the same place, but they only have entry/exit photos anyway, I suspect car park CCTV would also prove my case but can't imagine they would keep it this long?
I left via the normal exit and have done every time I visit, also there is only one entrance.

As above - an initial appeal to them with any sort of proof that you were elsewhere between the two times, but also if it took them 6 weeks to contact you, they have either either failed on Paragraph 7 & 8 of POFA 2012 if you are the registered keeper, or if it is a leased car, I can assume they will have failed on Para 13 & 14 for holding a hirer liable. They should have sent you a copy of the hire/lease agreement with the notice to hirer.
Happened to a chap at my work, he used the M6 toll services on the way up north (10 mins for a coffee) then on the way back down (15 mins coffee and wee) and got a ticket saying he had been there 9 hours.
He had to prove via CCTV from the office he arrived in the morning and left, turned out the car was dirty in winter and the number plate camera missed his first exit, was a ball ache but he got it sorted in the end

Not had it in services but had it in town. The local Halfords is on an estate with cameras and something like 2hrs free parking. I had gone into Halfords for about 10 mins for a part and gone home. Had lunch then went to fit the part. Realised I had the wrong one so went back to Halfords to exchange for the right one. Again only there about 10 mins.
Weeks later I get a fine through with pics of my car entering and leaving about 4 hours apart. They had used my initial entry and final exit.
Luckily I still had the receipts for the stuff at Halfords so told them what seemed to have happened, sent them copies of the receipts and they dropped it.
Dunno what I would have done if I didn't still have them

ds Prove It as your systems are incorrect.
This is where your dash cam comes in handy.
If it took them 6 weeks to send the letter, then for a dash cam to be helpful either you only use the car once a week or you have some monstrous memory card in it.

Surprise, surprise, the PE double dip curse strikes again...
S11Steve is right on the money as usual.
OP, tell them you were elsewhere (with specific times) and invite them to drop it.
And inform them you have CCTV evidence to prove it if they are dumb enough to try issuing a court claim.

This happened to me at South Mimms had a coffee on way into London, needed a pee on the way back. They said I’d been there three hours. Fortunately my RingGo receipt showed i’d been to North London in the meantime,
On reading their terms & conditions it was possible that I breached the no return within 2 hours rule, which is a daft restriction anyway.

Not service station related but PE related.
I parked at a hotel car park 2 years ago. Machine didn’t work so paid the parking at hotel reception. They forgot to inform PE who sent me a Parking Charge Notice. Told them I had paid etc etc back and forward. Hotel got involved told them I had paid but they still refuse to accept it. I’m still receiving letters threatening court action.

I have number of pickup trucks for work so when I leave these monitored car parks I drop the tail
gate down which blocks view of the plate.
Also if you sit on the bumper of the vehicle in front on the way in the camera does not grab your plate.
That must piss them off
Have also had charge invoice sent to me for one truck however it was a different colour
also no hazard markings or roof beacon.
Sent them a photo and informed them either your ANPR is wrong or cloned plate.
Not further action taken

Seems ridiculous that they can wait such an amount of time before contacting. The likely-hood that anyone can evidence their locations at specific times over a week is low enough. Cameras get overwritten, receipts get binned.
Under the POFA they can't wait this length of time but they rely on the unsuspecting MOP to not know this.SVTRick said:

We get this once or twice a week for our fleet (about 8000 at the moment!) and despite the PPCs saying that each charge is checked prior to sending, it is clearly bo11ocks.also no hazard markings or roof beacon.

I've got one on my desk at the moment from BW Legal that I've written to the PPC twice with photos of the vehicle and proof it was elsewhere, but the PPC have still passed to BWL to chase. As much as I want to make a mockery of them in court, I really don't to be part of wasting the courts time.

This is why the UK wants your vehicle plate large and easy to read under IR lightI've got one on my desk at the moment from BW Legal that I've written to the PPC twice with photos of the vehicle and proof it was elsewhere, but the PPC have still passed to BWL to chase. bugger all to do with police ANPR which can read figures a fraction of the size.
And also enable cash cow local council cameras which not ANPR or IR to read them
