My wife bought me a petrol tiller for Christmas, which due to weather etc was not used until late April. First time it was used the drive belt came off within about 6 ft of tilling. Local garden machinery place looked at it and advised that they felt that the pulleys were out of alignment and therefore it was guaranteed to come off again, which it did.
It was being used on soft ground which an electric cheap tiller from Lidl has subsequently tilled with no issue.
The tiller has now been back to the supplier who are saying that the chassis bolts were loose, and the belt was wrongly routed and it wasn't like that when it left the factory therefore its our fault and want £70 to repair and return it and we should have reported the fault earlier.
Dont really see why I should pay £70 for them to repair and return it when it hasn't worked since first used but of course problem is they wont return it until we pay.
It was bought online through Ebay with payment via credit card and has a 12 month warranty.
What are options? Pay the £70 under protest then seek to claim it back? Reject the product through the credit card? Problem is of course dont have it to see what if anything they have done with it!

Ebay you say?
Hmm, have you rerouted the belt wrong? If you honestly think it was duff from them at manufacture, how about you buy a new one from same supplier on paypal, receive it, say it is f
ked or not as described, or damaged, file a return claim, and then send them the old f
ker back!
Using a different ebay account may help!!

Credit card via PayPal? If so you have no section 75 protection.
I believe you do if you simply use PayPal as a pass-through for the card payment - ie don't keep money in your Paypal account. Also you're covered by Section 75 if you use PayPal easy payments scheme.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
