Anyone have this problem?

I do have depression, so sleeping is a way of ‘hiding’ from life, but even without, my natural sleep pattern is to go to bed at about 12 and wake (with alarm) at about 10am. Even then, I can easily roll over and sleep another 2 hours, which is frankly ridiculous.

As I have to be up at 8am for work this is clearly unsustainable, although I’m lucky that I have very flexible work hours. I just end up being exhausted, to the point of having to use my lunch hour to nap etc.

I’ve been like this since I was 17, and I’m now 48. No problem getting to sleep, I’m out like a light, but I’m impossible to wake.

Having kids cured my excess sleep issue.

Being a little more serious, diet and more importantly amount of water really impacts my sleep patterns. If I don’t drink water then I drag all day. It’s a better pick up than caffeine for me.

Oh, and alcohol. Not good for sleep.

Is it possible to go to sleep earlier? Move your bed time 15 minutes a day or even week until you are at 10PM. Probably sounds very early to you but I’m in bed between 9:30 and 10 every night. This was originally due to kids because I never knew if I would be kept awake by them so would go to bed early. I just haven't adjusted it and don’t feel like I’m missing out. I do get up between 5 and 6 though which allows me to be much more productive at work and leave early.

My problem is that the only time during the day that I don’t feel tired is bedtime! It’s honestly at the point where I’d kill for a good nights sleep. Massive nightmares when I do.

Yes big time - in the past I have mixed sleeping ridiculously long hours 9I have slept 18 hours before multiple times) but also many days of only 2-4 hours sleep

I changed diet to both wheat free and then keto and noticed a big difference in
a) just needing less sleep
b) feeling snappier when I did get up

try looking at your diet and changing it for a few weeks and see if any different

You need to get to the doctors explain your symptoms and have some blood tests done. You could have an under active thyroid, low iron levels (anaemia), even poor kidney function. Rule out the medical stuff before looking for other stuff.

Pls report back.

Yep, I’ve had all the tests in the past, and I am slightly anaemic so take iron pills. I don’t think I’ve left my inner teenager to be honest. It’s horrible and in the past has ruined relationships and jobs.
