In a spare room I have a Panasonic 4k TV.

I use the TV for PS4 (HDMI), PC (HDMI), Now TV on the PS4, Prime via Wi-Fi. But in the morning as we're getting ready for work we watch terrestrial breakfast TV on it, through the old school antenna, via a little booster antenna (it doesn't connect to an antenna on the roof, just from the little booster).

Every morning since we got it in December it's been fine, perfect picture considering it's an antenna connection from a dinky little antenna. However, yesterday, we had no sound on terrestrial TV and it's still gone. Still got sound on PS4, so it has to be something to do with the antenna, we still have the perfect picture, just no sound.

Any thoughts from any of you wiser Audio/Visual techy types, it's got me stumped?

It's unlikely to be an ariel fault imho if the picture quality is unaffected more likely to be an issue with the actual tuner in the TV or a failure of the chip that decodes the audio signal from Freeview.

Try retuning it by doing a channel search, that might kick it back into life.

Within the setup/tuning menu there's sometimes a ‘sound’ option where you can select BG, DK, I etc. Use ‘I’ in the UK.

May not be this but it was on our TV.

Somewhere in the menus there will be an option to reset to factory settings, I'd give that a try.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I did a re-tune last night, but this time it failed to find any channels at all. I'm picking up another indoor aerial today and will try that. If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to get t sorted on warranty.

Cheers for the thoughts.

Worth a try now with the new ariel, but make sure it can be returned if it doesn't work as it sounds more like the tuner on the telly is knackered to me.

Defo try the factory reset as mentioned above as well

Yeah, I'm not too confident either, but will give it a go and am getting from somewhere where it can be returned. I'll try the factory reset as well and see if that helps. But I have a feeling it'll need to be fixed under warranty/returned/replaced.

New 4G mast in the area? https://at800.tv/

Other things to try:

Have you got another TV somewhere plugged into an external (roof top) aerial? Does that work ok? Can you try this TV on that connection?

Or vice-versa, have you got another TV somewhere with working Freeview, can you try that with the portable aerial? Does it work?

Hi all,
thought I'd update you. I tried a fresh channel search and ended having no channels at all, sound or vision. So I tried the portable aerial in another TV and it worked. Then I then put that aerial back in the TV with the problem, and did a full installation reset and I have everything back to normal! Full sound and vision on all terrestrial channels.

Still have no idea what the problem was, but it's all sorted now.

Thanks for all your input, much appreciated. beer

Good to hear.

COuld be a dodgy ariel connection at the back of the telly or broken conductor in the cable. Ariel sockets are not that robust.

As it's working, don't touch anything. smile

Indeed, it fell over after Mrs Ash decided to do some dusting around it!!

Same TV had another weird problem earlier in the week, it wouldn't turn off and go into stand-by, either from the remote (all other functions worked) or from the button on the back. Eventually after about an hour or so I could turn it off with the remote. Not sure what happened. I wondering if it was a heating problem (I'd been on the PS4 for a couple of hours), and when it had time to do nothing for an hour it was fine. very strange!

It's an awesome TV with a fantastic picture etc, it just seems to have some little quirks, maybe it was a Friday build! laugh
