Just seen some posts on social media which showed some 'Nooks' in an office. So I went to see how much they were going for...

Starting at £3250 for a cupboard on wheels without doors, but with a table and some padding...

Oops - sorry, for an 'event pod'. I get the usefulness of this product, but really, that much?!

We have something similar but smaller in work.
It looks like a old telephone booth.
Unfortunately its so small when they put a stool in their for people to sit on you cant use it as you physically cant get any one it.
There is only about 2 inches between the stool and the wall.
Apparently it cost an absolute fortune was bought with other office furniture that also has never been used.

Another reason they havent been used is the fact they have no power supply- it was too expensive to connect.

I was expecting a place where you met up with slutty Sandra from the switchboard .
I certainly am out of touch with office life having been in the automotive, fabrication or transport world for most of my life .

How poncy are they? Another snowflake item for the poor overworked office wallers.

We have them - they come in 3 different sizes (2/4/6 seat) usually with a monitor on the wall that you can attach your laptop to.

Ridiculously expensive but necessary because we have open plan offices (for everybody including the CEO), meeting rooms are limited and oversubscribed, so these are handy for quiet 1 to 1s.

Bear in mind that, wrt costs, it would be far more expensive to reconfigure office space into permanent meeting rooms and they would be less flexible, so they DO make sense.

hehe

It could be handy.. it’s on wheels, load it up with the office bellend and launch it down the corridor.

Bullst item for the kind of people that don't do any real work.

It's probably deliberate - they are normally intended to be somewhere to make a quick call with a client, not set up a mini office for a day.

They told you it is too expensive... wink

Why do you need power anyway? Most laptops last 5-8 hrs?

I thought you could push 2 together for a Nooky pod. Might need some contortion.

I work in a building with partial open plan offices. One wall of small offices and meeting rooms the the rest open plan in the direct review of the company directors.

It's the least productive environment to work in. I hate open plan offices.

These would be useful, but they look a bit... Erm... wk

Does that mean the booth is quiet... or you have to be quiet when in the booth?!

...I can just picture stressed out staff going in there for a screaming / swearing session hehe

If you've had your own office for a while they do take some adjusting to but I find it more enjoyable (and i don't tend to procrastinate as much). A lot depends on the team you're working with and the chat. As a manager it also means you can pick up any issues a lot more quickly (IMHO YMMV).

Also in our team there's a fair amount of WFH so the open plan office is combined with hot desking, which wouldn't really work if people still had their own offices.
