Bow ties - where to get a good one
Discussion
There is an occasion approaching at which I could do with a bow tie, and I'm afraid I don't currently own one. I'm afraid I'm not the best with Google, but for all the searching I've done I cannot find one which justifies parting with cash. My criteria are pretty simple:
- Must be a nice material, preferably wool though I'll settle for silk, but no horrible synthetic rubbish
- Must be a real tie, not a tacky clip-on piece
- Just needs to be a plain colour, could perhaps have an unobtrusive pattern but nothing garish
I don't particularly want to spend more than I have to, but it would be nice to find a good-quality tie. Why does it have to be so hard?
Suggestions appreciated...
Cheers!

TM Lewin also do an outlet store on ebay which may be worth checking out. £15 for a blue wool tie (free delivery) or perhaps you'd prefer it in pink.

Perfect, thank you. The Tie Room has some nice ones but I think I'll pick up the T. M. Lewin one as well while it's cheap.I don't know why I couldn't find them myself but I appreciate you taking the time.

Where oh where did I go wrong?

And to the OP
Probably a little late but:
Turnbull & Asser - Jermyn St. or Davies St. London
or
New & Lingwood - Jermyn St. London or Eaton High St.
T&A has the superior collection for informal (i.e. not black/white tie. You may well consider some in that collection to be a bit "garish"), either will do for formal.
Turnbull & Asser Bow Ties - The full collection is considerably more extensive than on the web site.
New & Lingwood Bow Ties - Again, a few other options not displayed on the web site

Where could you possibly need a bow tie for an informal event?
I can't imagine, but it seems toasty can
As "wool" and "patterned" were mentioned, it seemed it may well be other than a black/white tie dinner suit affair.
Neither would 'normally' be strictly correct for true formal, as you are well aware I realise.

I think they mean a standard bow tie to wear with a suit or blazer rather than black or white for formal evening events.
Agreed. It seemed a possibility.MrBrianNorris said:

Can you actually tie a real bow tie?- Must be a nice material, preferably wool though I'll settle for silk, but no horrible synthetic rubbish

Theres a skill to it! And since I use mine so infrequently, I find I forget in between and have to spend a hour or so re-learning!
