For aesthetics will be having ceiling speakers in new kitchen / diner.

Will be a simple stereo setup, 8" speakers, background / radio etc.

Was thinking of putting the 2 speakers roughly 3m apart, 1m from wall, just kitchen side of centre of the room (to avoid an RSJ).

Does this sound right?

Thanks

Room is a 5x 8m rectangle with kitchen taking one 4x5m section and diner the other.
Amp is a Nuvo P3100, 20W per channel (like a 3 zone Sonos). Only one zone is available for the room.

As a simple stereo pair I really don’t think it matters where they go unless you’ll always be sitting in one exact position expecting the perfect stereo experience.

Just to add ... in my last place I had ceiling speakers for the living room in a 5.1 system and the kitchen had a stereo pair situated exactly as you are planning. All worked perfectly well.

I have a friend that had exactly this done in his pub. If you put all the lefts on one side and the rights on the other you have to be sitting in the right place to get the stereo effect. He has alternated left and right on each side, so is like this:

Great, thanks for the input. The ceiling is being boarded in about a week so needed to get it sorted before then.

For our ceiling speakers i made some 18mm ply boxes, filled with wadding - then plaster boarded them in.

It has made the speakers sound amazing and highly reduced the bass travel to upstairs

Or just use hoodies which exist for fire protection and noise purposes. They are good at stopping upwards noise travel.

I fitted a pair of 8inch ceiling speakers into my 8m x 4m kitchen. Approx 2m in from either end wall and the same from each side wall, if that makes sense.

Sounds great, plenty loud enough. Unlike the poster above I wasn’t smart enough to build a box/enclosure for them, so the office and a bathroom above can be a bit boomy, if the kitchen speakers are cranked up - if I was doing it again or ever lift the floors above, I’ll knock up an enclosure for sure.

Hoodies fold so can go up after and not do extra damage

I have a pair of Monitor Audio ceiling speakers in my large kitchen powered by a Sonos Connect Amp. They have enclosed backs which seems like a much more elegant solution to making your own enclosure or fitting a foldable hood that may or may not suit the driver.

I had open back MA CT-265's in my last place and they were superb. Those 380's look lovely, do they should good?

I've been very happy with them and would choose the same again when we move house. I have CP-260's in the bathroom which I'd also have again, probably replace pairs of Sonos Play 1's in the bedrooms with a pair of 260's as well. Costs quickly add up when each pair has its own Sonos Connect Amp but the ease of use, sound quality and astetics is unbeatable in my opinion.

Cheers. I ran mine from 2 Sonos Connet Amps and a Denon AV receiver so similar setup.

Reviving an older topic.

Am doing new plan of kitchen and was asked by a friend what speakers I'm putting in the ceiling....
None at the moment, but got me thinking!!

The kitchen is already way over budget but this is now something I need to explore!!

Kitchen has an Alexa and a TV so just need to accommodate that.
Anyone have any suggestions that will work without me getting more of an earful from 'er indoors?

Simple pair of in-ceiling speaker need not be expensive, I've just cleared out a bunch of Monitor Audio C165's eft over from a project, but MrSparks has a web shop full of them.

We also have OSD Contractor Speakers and can get Monitor Audio if needed.
