Hi all,

Recently took the plunge and got a Cupra on a lease deal from Seat direct. Picked it up on the 25th and a few days later noticed a large scratch in the rear window (was washed by them prior to me picking it up), told them about it and was told not to worry and I will not be charged for this at the end of the lease.

I came to wash it for the first time today, noticed two large scratches in the front bumper, only visible if you look at the bumper from a certain angle, but I can feel them with my nail. I know I've not caused these as I wash the cars using the correct procedure (2 bucket method and correct wash mitts) and the car hasn't been anywhere that could have caused these i.e. in a public car park.

Is it worth me emailing them and trying to get them to rectify it or just leaving it and hoping I don't get charged for it at the end of the lease?

New to this leasing malarky, so apologies if it's a dumb question.

Cheers.

You need to get that in writing, sounds like nonsense to me.

Yep total nonsense. The dealer aren't involved with the return or condition assessment at the end of the lease.

I had a cupra delivered in march with the gloss black grill surround scratched. Dealer said exactly the same thing. I said that's fine if you put in writing the dealer will take responsibility for the cost of any charges due to the damage at the end of the lease signed by the business manager.

They replaced the grill surround.

I've got writing as in email proof from the Cupra Sales Executive. Is that enough or?

Not sure I'd trust that it's enough.

Call the lease company and see what they say.

I've just emailed them again regarding the scratches on my front bumper. The lease company is Seat (VWFS), still worth ringing them?

Yes, I think I would.

As poster above said, dealer has nothing to do with the inspection when handing it back.

I'm sure they shouldn't be trying to get you to accept a damaged car.

I've had it two weeks tomorrow, got a feeling they'll be trying to put the blame on me.

Yes, I'd have thought so.

If VWFS say it's ok then you'll be covered.

Their local rate phone number was 01908 485000 last time I called them.

Check it on google though.

I alerted them about the scratch on the rear window 2 days into ownership.

Just rang SEAT Financial Services and they've logged a complaint. Fingers crossed.

Fwiw vag lease returns are super easy and quite generous. If the scratch isn't deep or long they will let it go along with dents smaller than a 50p. That's what happened with my return.

I also had a scrape down the side about half a foot long that slightly dented the door and got charged about 100 quid when I returned it.

I've heard that but also don't fancy being charged for damage I've not caused.

Quick update:

Raised a complaint with Seat Financial Services on Monday.

Emailed the dealer who said to bring the car in yesterday so they could inspect it. They've agreed to take the vehicle in to fix the scratch on the rear window, and the two scratches on the front bumper. The B pillars on the outside are also covered in scratches so going to get them to look at these too if they will.

Was disgusted with the way they went about it yesterday. Was made to stand outside in the rain whilst the manager rubbed some compound into the scratch whilst a colleague of his lent on my car to watch. He then used the same cloth to remove a mark on the interior handle... He also kept repeating the fact there is fair wear and tear guidelines which yes there is, but the damage didn't happen during my possession and therefore should be fixed regardless if it's in the wear and tear guidelines or not.

Got this lease thinking yes, hassle free motoring, looks like it's not going to be.

Anyone have any advice on what to do next if they fail to resolve the issues. I'm worried about the scratch in the window the most as this is the most visible defect.

Cheers

The plastics used for the B pillars are very easy to scratch, all it takes is a small amount of grit in the wash mitt and you end up with deep scratches in the plastic.

This will have no doubt been caused by them. Are they easy to buff out?
