Ok, I am expecting some jokes to be made with this thread but hey ho here goes!

How do you drive a 1600 Ford X-flow in a westfield SE!

I mean in terms of wads of revs, change late, bla bla bla!

I'm stuck, it doesn't like being driven nicely!

What state of tune is the X flow in ?

My Connaught 1600 (in a Wfield SEi) is pretty highly tuned, lots of balancing, lightening, big sucky carbs, drainpipe exhaust, dry sump, yadda yadda. It's not a "poddle round town" car by any means - the race clutch is fairly digital (makes gentle starts difficult), and there's bu**er all going off below about 3.5k rpm. The upside to this is, of course, the fact that it revs to nearly 7000 and goes like stink in those higher rev ranges

It's not very highly tuned at all! I'm running Weber 40's!

The exhaust isn't that great, a bit low to the ground so makes a very nasty noise when encountering speed bumps!


I'm yet to really open it up as I'm waiting to find out how to fit cycle wings, anything above 50 and the front end goes a bit light with the wings on there at the moment!

Yeah, I have to be careful going in/out of our drive (which has a very slight hump) .... pulling onto the drive 2 up is a no-no.

Define "it doesn't like being driven nicely". If it's fairly stock, it shouldn't be too difficult to drive (I'd guess ?).

If setting off is the problem, is the clutch knackered ?
If driving at low revs is the problem, do the carbs need setting up / tuning ?
If the gear change is notchy, maybe the clutch needs adjustment ?
