I was on the North East runout today and again I was very impressed with the Vanguish S’s exhaust volume and tone - it was so much louder than any of the other 8 Astons present.

I’ve heard lots of discussion about the V12 Vantage S secondary cat delete and the difference it makes.

My question is this: Does the secondary cat delete on the Vantage make the exhaust as noisy as the Vanguish S?

If so, I’ll be phoning AM North East in the very near future.

Steve

In my (limited) experience you can make a Vantage sound as loud as you want.

The easiest step is obviously removing fuse 15/22. But then you can go down the secondary decat route (GT8 for example comes without them as standard), change the exhaust for a QS/Larini, straight pipe. And I suspect you could also play with the manifolds

If the fuse removal isn’t loud enough, the secondary decat is a good next step. Just don’t do all of the above at the same time!

We have just done a trip in the Lakes with another V12 AMR and a Vanquish Ultimate. We were in our AMR. The AMR’s have both been decatted.

All three were very loud but I think the Vanquish Ultimate was the loudest and the owner said that it had a titanium exhaust in addition to the decat. Having heard an AMR with a titanium exhaust I can understand why.

So, to get the equivalent, I think you would need to decat your car and add the titanium exhaust. In our roadster I think it would be too loud for the type of travelling we do and am happy with what we have.

The owner of the ultimate had a titanium exhaust fitted and decat?

My ultimate is factory standard and already very loud. I'm curious how much difference the titanium and decat has made in sound to the stock exhaust?

My wife says my Vanquish S Ultimate is too noisy. Which means it is just right.

It is loud enough that people jump when it starts.

The sound you get when you push that key on a cold start is all you need. Makes me smile everytime

An awful lot of the things I enjoy the pessimists will have you believe are soon to be stopped by the police/council/government/health professionals/The BBC/climate change campaigners/the E.U./the U.N. or a random Guardian columnist.

Well bks to all them and the pessimists as well. I’ll keep doing what I want while it’s legal. If (a big IF) and when it’s not I’ll find something else to do, or more likely move to somewhere I can still do it.

That certainly explains the noise. Does it also have the titanium exhausts or is that after market?

Never really a question I asked when I was rushed into specing the car within 24 hours 😀

What’s the going rate of having the secondary de cat fitted by AM? (V12sr)

Might just wait until next service but that’s next spring....

I am overseas until September.. hmm decisions .
