Stealth Wheels
Discussion
Hi,
Does anyone know the paint colour code for Stealth alloys? I have the Super-Lightweight 10 spoke alloys on my car (Diamond Cut) and would be quite keen to get them done in Stealth. McLaren are quoting me £200 per wheel to do this so am pretty sure I can find this a lot cheaper elsewhere...
Thanks

Yeah, I did think it seemed a little on the high side. They also need the car for 4-5 days so suspect they just send them away somewhere anyway. I've found an independent who has quoted my £340 + VAT and can do same day service...a friend had his R8 wheels done there and they seem pretty reputable and decent

If they are being done properly, it will take a few days. In the past, my wheels have been chemically stripped, surface prepared removing kerb marks or filling in deep gouges/scrapes, followed by primer, top colour coat then lacquer. I doubt a ‘same day service’ is a full refurb. £100 to £120 per wheel would be a ball park for a full and proper refurb.Highly recommend these guy https://www.lepsons.com/prices/
Don’t forget that if your tyres are fitted they will also charge for removal and refitting at approx £15.00 per wheel.

Go to Wheel Works in Crawley. They do the wheels for the factory. They’ve done a set of stealth wheels for me and using the factory paint. Pretty much half price you were looking at.
Hi Jamieo - funnily enough, that is who I have been speaking to as they did my friend's R8 and he highly recommended them. That is good to know they have done a McLaren before and stealth wheel colour too. I'll go for this then!

They’re v knowledgeable and friendly. Ask them to show you round and how they refurb/paint the wheels. Quite interesting. Doesn’t look much as a place but they did a great job on a set of stealth wheels for me and a perfect fix to a damaged diamond cut one (both McLaren)I'll go for this then!
Up here in Scotlandshire, put it into McLaren and the wheels end up at 'we restore alloys' in Kirkcaldy to be refurbished.
Whist my young lad and i were making a tired E46 M3 minted for him earlier this year, we put his diamond cut 19'' wheels in there on the recommendation of my good pal that painted the car...they came back A1 and i'm ocd about stuff like that.
Got speaking to the owner and it turns out thats where Graypaul at Fort Kinnaird send the Ferrari , Lambo, Bentley and Porsche wheels...they had actually done the wheels on my last Ferrari.
When i got the Mac it had a few tiny tiny marks on the diamond cut wheels so i didn't hesitate to get them to do them and just chuck on brand new boots whilst there.
So for any owners up this way, its where to go.

Picked up the car yesterday and couldn't be happier - these guys were excellent. As mentioned earlier in the thread, they actually used to do all the wheels for the factory (they've done over 100 P1's for MSO the guy as telling me) and have done quite a few other Mclaren's too.
Car was all done in a day and was less than £100 a wheel (inc. VAT) with rebalancing etc after - more than half what I was quoted elsewhere...

Damn impressive - Took mine 3 days to be done. Chemical strip, fill kerb marks, primer, colour, cure then refit / balance wheels. Have they got a special machine and/or process?
My (i8) damaged wheel also took that long. Well, 5 days in fact, as it is bi-coloured, hence additional steps of masking off and then painting the second colour.LotusJas said:

Good stuff, glad it worked out.Car was all done in a day and was less than £100 a wheel (inc. VAT) with rebalancing etc after - more than half what I was quoted elsewhere...
Yep, they do the whole lot - wheel stripping, chemical stripping, blast cleaning, pre-heat, powder primer, colour then final coat. They said the most time consuming bit is the chemical stripping and that can really depend on how easily the old laquer, base coats and primer coats come off the wheel. Then they refit and rebalance the wheels
I dropped the car off at 8am and they had it in and on the ramp and wheels off within minutes as I was waiting for a taxi to take me to the station, the car was finished just after 5pm.
I think they have done a couple of other McLaren owners on this forum and results are excellent
