Got a gold Seamaster that my mother gave to me for my 21st back in the 60s. Its never worked well and for decades was in the bank safety deposit. Thought I might like to get it going again but it needs a service, a minor rpair to the dial ( one number dropped off) and a strap. The quote from Watches of Wales, after sending back to switzerland , was £1500 !!!!!

Any suggestions how I might do better? I should add that the watch worked OK except that it stopped every time it got to the date change. Probably just a cleaning job after 50 years unused. So I'm thinking that a decent service agent might be able to do the clean and stick the number back in.

Give Joe at Anglesey Watches a shout. He's on here under Variomatic. He's done lots of repairs on a range of stuff for me. Great work, honest and good value.

Plenty of other good recommendations for him by members on here.

+1 on Variomatic.

Bear in mind he has a colossal workload and is easing his way back to health after a nasty heart scare so a quick turnaround is unlikely.

His excellent reputation is IME well justified.

In the meantime, post up a couple of photos!

Get it serviced but leave the dial. I’d say the lack of a number adds character.

watchguy.co.uk should be able to help! my Rolex service cost £240-260 all in, this should be similar if not less, if it doesn't need parts replacing.

Send him an email with pics, explain the issues he will be able to advise, best bit is you get photos of all the work!

Joe is very busy, but he would be my choice. Ring up.
