This reversing up a slope thing..

the problem I have is that its almost impossible to fully release the clutch as the rear view is so limited (even with the camera on the new one - which i have to say I still dont trust completely)
So the tendency is to ride it or slip it (depending on the slope) and thats what does the damage
I just try & avoid it at all costs

Obviously you can't get a manual car moving without slipping the clutch because that's how it works. The thing that really does the damage (to the friction plate) is slipping it at high revs and overheating it. Hence why using the anti-stall is a good idea. It enables you to reverse in a controlled way, at manageable speed whilst slipping the clutch at the lowest engine speed possible without stalling. Try it.
As per Petes advice above, release clutch really slowly, then let the anti stall take over. Once you get used to it you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
From 2012 on (I think) all models have the hill hold to save you clutch slipping on hill starts. The car will hold the brake for you until you move off.

I’ve needed a new clutch on my last 3 cars partly due to me reversing on full lock up my inclined short drive into my garage. Didn’t realise how bad it was for my clutch until reading on here! Ever since I had the uprated clutch on my 08 V8vr 20 months ago I just drive straight in now. It doesn’t look so good when I open the garage doors but I’m sure will pay dividends on my wallet!
