Hi folks,

Few days ago, and against my better judgment, I joined my girlfriend in using a set of those chemical foot peel sock things you get.

All fine at the time, next day the peeling started as normal. Day 3 and the tops of my feet went red, day 5 now and they are a mess of red bumps, weeping blisters and stinging skin. I’m back to work on Tuesday. What’s best to do between now and then to get them on the mend?

It’s at the point I can’t really wear socks or shoes as this seems to aggravate the problem even more.

I have tried aloe Vera cream (stingy), hydrocortisone cream (stops the itching a bit), cetraben moisturiser (seemed ok), and sudocrem (not sure).

I don’t want to throw everything at it and not know what works so are any of the above better than the rest?

I have pics but I will spare everyone them for now laugh

Thanks

SAS Tom

It's obviously a reaction to the chemicals in the socks so a pharmacist might be able to help you quicker than a doctor's appointment.

Hydro cortisone (or an ointment spelled similarly) is prescription only at strengths likely to be useful.

I had blisters on blisters in my armpits, reaction to a roll-on, and the doctor gave me cream to stop the itching (I scratched myself when asleep and woke up to find my pajama tops stuck to my armpits) and I was told to wash in cold water a few times each day.

I hope the above is helpful to you, as I can't resist suggesting that it is a self-inflicted wound.

Best of luck.

EDITED TO ADD:

My wife experienced something similar. It spread from her feet quite rapidly. She was given a high dose of steroids (6 pills twice a day) and it cleared up after a few days. (She started as loose head prop for my rugby club after a selection mix up.)

She walked barefoot around the house once told that the condition was not contagious. It turned out to be a reaction to a change of washing powder.

Ha, good question. Girlfriend has used them before a few times will no problems.

She’s suggested to me a few times also and to date I’ve always politely declined. I have psoriatic arthritis which affects my gait when walking a bit so I tend to have a hard patch on one of my heels, gave in this time and now hard skin is the least of my problems laugh
