Hello, im posting here for a friend. He is looking to buy a f355 spider in the next few months and i said i will post some questions on here for advice.

We went to verdi cars to have a chat with them as i think they are supposed to be very good, in servcing and sourcing cars???

The F1 gearbox, now ive heard stories that they can be a bit of a mare, the guys at verdi seem to think they were fine but he's not sure and doesnt know wether to only look for a standard manual - any advice/experience??

The hoods on the f355 can go wrong is there any pointers on what to look for??

Exhaust wise, they showed us 2 types, tubi and capristo - the capristo did look better but any experience/advice??

Has any one got any pictures of the after market sports carbon fibre air boxes, and know the rough cost of these???

Any pointers in general what to look out for, i.e. not just fsh etc... but tips etc... when checking over a car.

His budget is 50-55K

thanks in advance.

Verdi are very good - Karl certainly knows his stuff...

On exhausts it would appear from both my experience and also as discussed both heavily and regularly on ferrarichat.com that it is all personal taste. I would say for the money capristo is better than a tubi as it has a more resonant tone and seems louder for the same money - both around 1700 odd fitted i believe nowadays.Exhausts noises change depending on whether you de cat your car too....take a look at fchat for a more indepth discussioon on this....of course if you the best get an ms racing exhaust or an Ito but we are talking about £3k for those and they are not readily available - ship from Japan...but I would say that cos I am biased ;-))

As for carbon fibre airboxes i also have these - the Gruppe M design plus chip... I think from memory the airbox alone is (was) £2.4k and the chip a further £600 - i have pics but at work not here...will send on later...

F1 or manual - again a personal choice.Go and drive both. For me the F1 is not as much fun as a manual and on a 355 not as sorted as say on a 360. I used to ahte them in traffic too - forever having to select neutral / burning out the clutch plate....as with everything if you use it properly then it will last (the clutch) but with an F1 u r tempted to be lazy and leave it in gear in traffic and then the clutch goes amazingly quickly...in my personal opinion here (dont shoot mem down guys) but having driven an F1 355 a lot and a 360 F1 the 355 F1 feels a bit gimmicky ....besides I love that silver gearstick adn the clack clack of the gate as you slam each gear home....

Never had an issue with the roof..(touch wood)...if you look after it , bleed it and check it every 6 months u should not have an issue....likewise dont jam things in behind the passenger seat as that can affect the sensors and the roof can go tits up ...

Personally i would trust Karl at Verdi...I have never had any issues with him...He will always check out cars that you are interested in......
