Golf Gti performance pack oil

Hi guys, hope you're well? Just bought a golf gti performance pack 230 and was wondering what's the best engine oil to use for it? I usually keep a litre bottle in my boot just incase I need to top it up. From what I've read the car uses 5w30 engine oil? Is that correct? Any other owners out there have any advice for me!?

What does the owners manual suggest? Why do you think that an internet forum would know better than the manufacturer?

It's good to carry it around in the car, as it's almost impossible to find motor oil when on one's travels. If only supermarket petrol stations would stock a range of the stuff for about 18 hours out of 24, it would save a load of grief...

5w30 504/507 spec. Castrol edge or Quantum Long life 3 are perfect examples.

I've got a litre of the Quantum in the boot of mine just in case; In 5k miles I'v had it (now 63k total) it's burned/leaked/lost virtually nothing, surprisingly!

My Octavia VRS with the same engine has done 40k in my ownership and never needed a single top up between 10k services. My previous one with the same engine as the MK6 GTI needed monthly top ups.

I had that engine in my TT and just stuck with the Castrol oil - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00O4361UW/ref=pe_1909...

Did notice it would need the occasional top up in between services. Same with a Mk7 Golf GTD I had too, I think they all drink a little these days...
