Hi guys, I need a little advice on my pinto engine please. The engine is a 2 litre 205 block which came out of a late series Sierra (it used to run an injection system). I have fitted this engine in my car and it is now on a DGAV Weber carb with manual choke. The problem is that it starts quite easily, revs high and but then dies. I have fitted new points and condensor, new plugs and leads, new coil and a new facet fuel pump and the carb idle screw is turned out 3 turns. Any ideas guys on whats wrong ??
cheers

Sounds like lack of fuel/supply. Or possibly too much and not enough air.

Can you start it without any choke? Does it make any difference?

Do you still have a spark while it is spinning down? Is the fuel pump still running?

It will start without choke, but then quickly dies.
The fuel pump is constantly going, but I don't know if its still firing as its dying down.

Do you have an electronic tach? If so this will fail as the sparks stop.

Good news guys, it turned out to be a vacumm leak. One of the blanked off outlets from the inlet manifold had a split on it's underside which made it impossible to detect whilst still on the car. Goes to show that even new items can be the cause of much head scratching !!!

Many thanks for your kind suggestions
