French Roadtrip in the Chimaera
Discussion
Hi all,
I've just completed a 2 week road trip around France in my Yellow Chimaera 500.
Having purchased the vehicle in January, I was a little apprehensive about how reliable my TVR would be, especially as the vehicle had only covered 21,000 miles since new. During my search, I spent quite a while looking for the right vehicle, having seen and driven quite a few "pristine" dogs in the process.
I found my ideal car in Aberdeen being sold by a fellow pistonheads member (das2000m), had the vehicle inspected by Barry at Ecosse TVR (Scotland) and was given a clean bill of health, and took the long trip up to Aberdeen to collect her. She then underwent a full 12k sevice at Taylor TVR, including an updated META immobiliser system by Carl Baker at the same time.
Suffice to say, I needn't have worried, throughout the whole trip she didn't miss a beat - not even in the searing 38 degree heat during the French heatwave. I even averaged 26 mpg for the trip, which wasn't bad for a Chimaera 500!
In total I covered just under 2000 miles, taking in the sights of Normandy, Honfluer, Tours, Alençon, Le Mans, La Rochelle, Cognac, Bordeaux, Burgoyne & Burgundy regions, Dijon, Reims, Champagne and Lille!
Here are a few photos (of the car) along the way....Enjoy!

And I even bumped into a French Chimaera along the way....anyone on here?

So glad ad you didn’t have any issues with the car Andrew, your trip will have been a really good reliability test, specially in that heat....a big change from when you collected the car earlier in the year!!. I’ve now got my intermittent Griff problem sorted .....I eventually found a bad connection inside the old immobiliser multi plug where it connected to the patch lead. Now that it’s reliable I’ve got it up for sale so if you know of anyone looking for a sorted Griff 500 let me know ; ) .I’ve got my eye on another Griff requiring some work!!
Regards Dave.

Hi Dave, yes it was a great test for the car, the complete opposite weather to the torrential rain and sleet when i picked it up from you! At least it has experienced all weather conditions now and has passed with flying colours!Regards Dave.
All the best in finding your next project, if i had space for a third car then i’d be after your Griff too! Best of luck with the sale.
Andrew.
