Trying to decide whether to bother taking my camera on holiday any more. Mainly just for snapping family, kids, opportunistic photos - nothing serious.

It's a Panasonic Lumix FS10, a few years old. Alternatively, I just use my Moto G5S. To me the camera seems to usually take better photos. But I know nothing about photography or what the info below really means. Is the camera better because it has optical zoom? Or is it all about higher megapixels?

Phone, Moto G5s:

16 MP, f/2.0, PDAF, LED flash, Auto-HDR, panorama.

Camera, Panasonic FS10:

12.0 megapixels, Optical zoom 5.0x, Zoom 35mm equivalent 28-140mm

IMO the dedicated camera will be better than the phone, pixels doesn't always been higher quality

Despite my latest phone having an amazing camera and gives brilliant results, I always find the thin rectangle shape of a phone not conducive to being held and used as a camera.

Your camera is tiny, just stick it in your pocket (or man bag if you rocking those skinny jeans) as a back up and/or save your mobile from getting flat battery, wet, dropped etc. Even if you don't use it maybe give it to one of the kids as its only worth a few quid, ask them to take a few pics of what interests them for a bit of fun when out and about (I've a couple compacts for this reason)?
