Something comfortable, semi-reliable, £5k

Hi all,

First time posting on this car buying sub so hopefully I can be given some direction.

My car history is that of mostly BMW's of the 6 cylinder, petrol engine variety, which I've mostly enjoyed (two E46's, one E39, an M135i, and most recently an M140i which I sold yesterday). Had a fair bit of Japanese in there too, and an RS Clio for good measure.

I never truly clicked with the M140i, I wasn't using it's power, and the rate of depreciation month on month I decided to move it on, and now I'm after something else. I'd like to get out of the finance game so I'm looking to buy something outright.

My criteria is a bit strange:

• Preferably auto
• Within £5k budget
• Outside of normal servicing, wearable parts etc., I'm "happy" to be spending circa £1,500.00 on maintenance per annum, more if required
• Not fussed on body style, but 4 seats as a minimum
• Xenons/uprated lights
• Newer than 2005
• Comfortable for commuting
• Not fussed on mpg
• VED to be kept under the highest bracket if possible, not that I'm that fussed, I just don't want to be trying to sell a car that has the £555 bracket
• Not something that's going to rust/be rusty

I've been looking at E60's, E92's - I'd love another E39 but I think they're just a bit leggy now, and I loved mine to bits but fancy trying something a bit newer.

Any ideas on what else to look for? Open to all makes and models, I just have a history of BMW's which lends itself looking at them...

If you want to stick to the BMW theme then the 335i can be had in estate or saloon or coupe, or the 535d in saloon or estate. Both easily remapped as you probably know.
