Morning all,

Hopefully going to look at this car over the weekend ,

http://www.topgear-cars.co.uk/showroom/aston-vanta...

Does anyone have any opinions on the seller ( Carlos ) or indeed the actual car? Hoping someone here knows it and the history .

I suspect the clutch needs doing soon . Otherwise looks ok to me .

Thanks

It might have already had a clutch if you are lucky.

I have asked the question , i would have thought they would have mentioned that in the ad but you never know 🙂

If so then that makes it very appealing .

Now it could be a different car, but the pictures, and dealer details look very similar to a car that was on my radar when I was looking for a car....over 2 years ago. eek
Obviously the MOT data will show if it's sat about for a while, so unless it's close I'd ask for the reg plate to check.
It could be a completely different car, black on black with red callipers isn't exactly unusual. wink

When I bought mine at 44000 miles the dealer mentioned during discussions that it had a clutch but it wasnt stated in the advert.

Strangely there was no receipt in the history, just a hand written '+ clutch' note next to one of the service stamps, so I tracked down the previous owner (not that I would doubt the word of a used car dealer lol) and he confirmed it definitely had indeed been done some 6000 miles ago, so happy days.

Should i be looking for a better price on the V8V?

I am also looking at this DB9 and it seems more far for very similar money with impeccable history etc

I think that may confirm it's the same car, I'd be asking a lot of questions as to why it's not sold in over 2 years, the price seems ok, spec is good, miles aren't daft, why has no one wanted it? scratchchin

That’s what i want to know .

I know he does a lot of high end stuff and so this has probably just sat around . But as you say on the face of it, it all seems good so far .

So back to the dilemma , this or a DB9!!!

Keep looking - there's lots of Vantages out there for sale, many with impeccable histories - this one has too many unanswered questions.

The fact its been sitting around a while may means he is open to a "sensible" offer - if the car stacks up paperwork and condition wise, I think I'd be budgeting for not only a clutch but also a full service - 2 year old oil that has not been used is not going to do the engine any good

Thanks all ,

I’m going to have a look on Saturday . I’ll look at others in that price range and then work out what I’m prepared to pay accounting for the clutch and a service as you say . However he did say he will have it serviced so that’s taken care of potentially .

The DB9 looks awesome , comes from a very reputable dealer and has all the paperwork , of course being a DB9 no clutch issue either .

You get more car for your money with a DB9 but I think it looks it's age far more than a Vantage that I don't think gas aged at all

My other half has suggested a DB9 but on looking at adverts they are leaving me a bit "meh" - no idea why because I used to love them, the want for a Vantage has remained strong for many years

The DB9 is more car for sure , but the Vantage has something . We’ll see

Drive both - they are more different to drive than to look at. One is more of a sports car the other definitely a softer GT. One responds well to being driven hard, the other prefers not to be... all imho before the rants begin!!

Thanks all so far .

So spent a lot of time today researching the dealer .
It’s Top Gear Specialist cars owned by a guy called Carlo.
According to Google and threads on this forum he’s well known and respected . Indeed one of the biggest lambo dealers around . So that’s a positive .

I’m meeting him on Saturday . He’s stated he’s going to service it before selling. I will ask why its been hanging around two years but i see that’s true for more of his stock and not just this.

I defo need to budget for a clutch .

Looking at past MOTs brakes have been an issue but they have all be done . Comes with a service history too.

So let’s see what happens .

Please do keep commenting away , i am no expert at all but if we can do a deal i think I’d prefer a V8 over the 9.
