A quick question to the racers out there...

Does rubber pickup on the tyre affect wheel balancing severely, and how much does the wheel balance have to be out to cause vibrations through the car, 10g, 20, 40g?

We are trying to trace a mystery vibration and the wheel balance has just been rechecked by a different company, and were farely well out, but the tyres have been used and have a small amount of pickup on them hence the question.

The tyres were newly fitted and balanced only a few weeks ago but the vibration only started after a slight 'racing incident' but so much has been changed on the car it has been hard to pinpoint the issue.

What type of tyres? I once hit a pothole that deformed the tyre. you couldn't see it until you ook the tyre off the rim.

If you've deformed the rim that would normally be apparent when you balanced the wheel, if you were looking for it.

I've seen impacts that have damaged the structure of the tyre in a way that was not at all obvious with the tyre on the rim, but made the car ride very strangely as the damage altered the tyre stiffness at one point. If the wheel has hit something and seems to be round and balanced but still causes vibration, I'd wonder whether the tyre itself has been damaged.
