Unsure what to do with my diesel

First time poster long time lurker.

Currently between the Mrs and I we have

• 2017 Skoda Superb Estate L&K DSG Diesel (150bhp)
• 2009 Skoda Fabia Hatch Manual Petrol (110 bhp)

The was intended as my commuter car consisting of a 70 mile round trip daily mostly on the M25 + carrying out family duties/holidays.
The Fabia is being used as the Mrs's run-around as she mostly walks to and from work.

The Superb I owe about £14,000 on a unsecured fixed rate loan which gets paid off in a a few years.
The Fabia was brought outright

Here lies my first world problem I've recently accepted a new job where I work from home so aside from the occasional run to town at lunch or a run at the weekend, I'm feeling that I don't "need" the Diesel.
We do a couple of yearly jaunts around the country so the estate boot space is handy for throwing all the gear in and those long trips are a breeze in the Superb once we get going.

So I've been pondering "if" I should replace the Superb as i do still owe a chunk of money on it or to just keep at as its a perfectly good car and hasn't caused me any issues.

If I was to replace it I would want to keep around the spec level of the L&K as its a nice place to be but if im spending more money I want something to put a smile on my face

So far I've looked at a Golf R (no one has the estate so drove the hatch) which while not an estate I could buy a roof box, walked around a couple of Audi's A4/6's but wasn't "wowed" by them so didn't take a drive and looked at the 280 Superb Estate which I did like but it sold before I could get back for a drive and I've not had a lot of time to "car shop" since. I kind of like the idea of a Merc C63 with some 500bhp fun times.
I would also like to keep the car fairly recent 5-7 years old.

assuming I can sort the outstanding finance on the Superb buy either selling/px I could probably stretch to around £20-25k with a new loan/finance

Finally the proper out of left field is the Mrs has said "I don't care what you do with my car as long as I have "my" car when I want" so could potentially flog hers and buy a hot/warm hatch of some form for around £10-15k use that as my "fun car" and keep the Superb for those longer jaunts and when the Mrs is using it.

If you are now working from home do you need two cars? condensing down to one would free up a large chunk of money to buy something much more interesting or stick with something normal and save money. Either way you are onto a winner!

I agree with the guy above, get shot of the 2nd car completely OR buy a toy, or a motorbike.

If you want to keep a 2nd sensible car, id hang on to what you have as the cost of fixing a low mileage diesel issue (which may never happen) will be far less than the money you lose on flipping a nearly new car (dealer mark ups).

Or be honest with yourself and just say you are using the change in circumstances as an excuse to change car. Nothing wrong with that.

I would not get rid of any car(s) in the short term.

It's a new job, give it at least six months to make sure that you like it/they like you/the company is stable.

Fabia isn't worth much, i'd keep it.

I'd get the superb remapped for a bit more go go, and then stick with what you have.

Just a thought, but given how few miles you expect to be doing might it be worth replacing your Superb with a petrol Octavia L & K Estate (assuming you can find one) and clearing the finance?

Its an excuse for sure but I was hoping to least have some (maybe just man) math behind it

I think even with a trade in id still be in the red as i dont think the Suberb is worth much more than £14-16k purchasing the Octavia would put me back where i was...

Seems as logic is to keep what ive got.

I’d sell both and get a Golf R estate or a 140i. Or, get a golf or focus estate diesel or small petrol turbo for your wife and something genuinely fun for yourself that won’t lose too much value - Elise S2, E46 M3, S2000, C63 etc

Keep both for now and see how things pan out.
We have a BMW 335d and a Fabia.
The BMW is mostly for long trips, but so is the Fabia, and we are using that now for a long trip.

Leave it a few months and see.
