I'm trapped in a vortex of head versus heart...

I plan to pick up something old and interesting over the summer (I mean a car...) which may not necessarily be fast. So I am contemplating a very fast estate car to become somewhat of a ridiculous daily driver.

I've owned none but plan to test drive all, any advice or experience very welcome.

I know the C5 4.2 is properly ruinous, but is the C6 V10 really that bad?

Had an RS6 and an E63AMG.

The AMG has been a fabulous car to the extent I’ve owned it 9 years now.

The RS6 isn’t fit to keep chickens in

Shame, always quite fancied one! Suppose it is a twin turbo V10 in a big heavy estate car with an automatic gearbox, what could go wrong! biggrin

There's also the XF Sportbrake 5.0 V8 which wouldn't cripple you but they are quite expensive due to being so rare.

Good luck with trying to arrange test drives in any of these.

An Audi dealer wanted me to practically buy his 3.0 A6 before I test drove it and so lost the sale.

There is another option - Alpina B5. I saw one recently in BMW Sheffield (a stunning dealership BTW ) and wanted it despite the fact that I have no use for an estate, have never had use for an estate and probably never will. It was just wonderful.

Is that the Alpina version of the V10 M5?

I know the V10 M5 is rare in Estate form.

Bonus points for massive bork factor as well biggrin lol

I done a reader’s cars thread a while back on 8 months ownership on a V10 RS6.

Have a look for it, you’ll have a good laugh, and it will most likely put you off hehe

No it'll be a supercharged V8 no V10 but it'll be absolutely ballistic.

E61 M5! They are rare so you might have to spend some time looking for one though.

I've owned two of those V10 M5s and both have been perfectly reliable.

You could also consider an e55 estate. Engine is epic and easily tweakable to 700bhp...
They are a bit older but choose carefully and it shouldn't be too bad.
I'd like a 5.5 turbo e63 but can't give up the older one. Its too good.

No the latest version. It was new and in the showroom so warranted borkinessbiggrin

It was £99,875 thougheek

So a massively overpowered car for which I have no real use or need at a price I really shouldn't consider paying. God, I wanted that car.
