Upset!! Sports exhaust badly fitted!

Hi there!

I have picked the Cerb today after fitting the sports exhaust and doing some other jobs to the car. After about 60 miles, the grin in my face has disappeared in 0.1s when I have noticed that a part of the boot (2 square inches) above the left exhaust was badly burnt. I have checked the position of the exhaust and it was touching the bottom of the boot :(. It is so annoying. I have paid 75 + VAT per labour hour and it is assumed that this is one of the most important thing to check :furious:.

Anyway, is it easy to adjust the sports exhaust myself in order to separate about half an inch from the boot?

Another question: I have noticed that one of the exhausts is already full of carbon while the other is pretty clean. What does this mean?

Sorry if I am asking stupid questions but my skills in mechanics is very poor.

Its just one of those things. Its always a good idea to ask the garage to take her for a test drive, say 20miles or so before they give her back. Joo does that to make sure everything is spot on, lucky git.

Its easy to adjust the pipes!
They have adjustable hangers, and if that isn't enough just loosen the clamp and give it a twist till both sides are in line.
I must do this with mine but i'm a lazy bugger! ha ha! the passenger side is about 3" lower than the other!

where did you get the sports pipes fitted and what make are they?

the cheap pipes on the market seem like a bargain but they don't fit, you spend more on labour cutting, bending and rewleding them than it would be to buy the decent ones in the first place. even they need some tweaking usually to make them fit, but the cheap ones are complete false economy.

S-X-S, you are totally right but they always go for a test drive. Perhaps this kind of mistake is one of those that are better detected when the car is still in the ramp.

Mark, I will try to adjust them myself (I I fit bellow the car ).

Joolz, I bought them from Fernhurst. I thought they were good ones. Am I wrong?

I have been talking to Fernhurst and they are sending a mechanic to my home to repair the car (he'll arrive in 1 hour). Next week, they will collect the car to repait the damage in the boot.

By the way, these all is a big effort for them (I live in the Isle of Wight ).

I have to say that I didn't expect less of them. They made a mistake and they are assuming their responsability and I am happy with that.
