Possibly nothing - I have that fitting in a Mercedes ml and it allows me to connect an iPhone or usb drive for music etc.

As above, nothing is missing - that car has the MDI interface allowing you (with the right lead) to connect phones and music players, with just a cubby hole to place the device.

That's the standard Passat (and other VW) phone connection cable, you can plug your phones usb cable into that.

Funnily enough when I bought my passat I drove about plugging my phone into that cable to play music only to find out that it will connect to play music via bluetooth on the car, I didn't realise it had that feature I thought the bluetooth was only for the phone calls!??!!

Thanks everyone.
