Bugger, thought I had deleted it....
Better explain a bit then.
Whilst trawling through ebay a Porsche 944 was advertised, and a highly good "VENTILATOR" edition.

I did copy and paste it, but didn't work out. So thought I would delete it rather than cock it up any more than I already had....obviously not

Do you think the seller means VENTILER ie 16v

Just wondering what 944's are going for and came across this howler...

Besides, I still haven't got the 911 out of my system yet, but can't afford one.

Yet.

Rich, I would appreciate a ride in your 911. So far, I have not been able to find one to 'sample' for the future 'projects'

A cat D SC would be a nice find.

Bobfrance is looking about, on another thread at the moment, doesnt' know what to go for precisely, but thinks a view of an 83' SC in Lancs' at 7K and change, might be worth a look perhaps.

Targa's are a bit cheaper I understand, mine is a LHD import tin top, have you looked here;
www.fuchs.co.uk/
Tim fretwell,
often has some affordables in, and very friendly and helpful.
Might be worth a look sometime.

They might mean 16Ventiler (as in the 944S)

Cuenus is correct - the 16 valve (unloved) was named the Ventiler

.....and some of them even have a small 'ventiler' badge by the side indicator repeater - not all of them though ;-)

Careful, the 2.5S is both peaky and fragile (compared to every other 944). I wouldn't touch one personally, but have helped friends buy 944 2.7 Lux, 2.5 turbo, and S2.

Lots of myths about the S being problematic, based on the fact that Porsche never specified a service interval for the cam chain tensioner when the car was launched so a number of failures gave the car a bit of reputation which it doesn't deserve. Also the S2 has exactly the same cam chain tensioner as the S.

As long as you replace the plastic tensioner pad on both the S and S2 every 20k miles and cam chains at 80k to be on the safe side then your ok. The pad only cost a couple of quid. Same as any car if you don't spend money on maintenance then your going to have problems at some time.

The S (190bhp)is quicker than the lux (163bhp) both with 2500cc engines. I've had an S for five years, its reliable and never let me down.

I've known two people with S's and they've had all sorts of trouble, but both had head gaskets go. Both knew about the tensioner too, fwiw. No chain problems in either case.

2.7 Lux was much nicer to drive than 2.5 - all that torque. And then there's the turbo...
