Recommend me a nice quick diesel
Discussion
Hi as a ex Subaru Impreza owner after a long time 10 plus years, I thought I would of got another one.but I haven’t.I have been looking at a bmw 325d or 330d and a Mercedes c350 cdi AMG. I can’t make my mind up which will be best so hopefully someone on here can help. I was thinking of a cobra Sport exhaust to put on ,when I had the Subaru i had a down pipe and afterburner vortex exhaust fitted and it was fairly quick as the people on Scoobynet told me it lets the car breathe much better and not restrictive like the standard exhaust. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh I only have a max budget of £12,000
I'd say to look out for an E350 preferably a 265 model:

With most 3.0d's a map & air filter is pretty much all you need.

Ok so it’s best to keep the standard exhaust on it?
Yes and you are flogging a dead horse trying to make a diesel engine sound any better. Spend the money on improving the performance(not that it is bad as standard on the ones you are looking at) for me. ZX10R NIN said:

If you want a smaller car the 125d is a cracking choice. My wife has one and it's doing almost 55 mpg on a run and 30+ in town all day. They remap to 265 bhp so then become genuinely quick. Simon at E Maps did our one and the difference from standard is worth the £250 it cost us. Yes it's only got 4 cylinders and lacks the 'cream' of a straight 6 but it's way quieter and smoother than the VW 2.0 TD she got rid of to buy it.

Thanks Grindle very nice just had a look on the net about these cars, very quick with a remap. Does a aftermarket exhaust give a turbo diesel car any more bhp or is it just a waste of money?I bought an E320CDI and then got this. I don't know about the veracity of their claims, but it seems quick enough.

An exhaust is just going to make it louder, I suspect.

You can't go wrong with a 330/335d or C/E 350
I originally wanted a 330d estate but my 15k budget would not get me (at the time) a decent spec M-Sport with Xeon / LED lights, Nav, good stereo etc
A friend pointed me towards the C350 amg line which has a better spec as standard and the V6 is generally more reliable than the BMW.
The BMW is a better steer, but the Mercedes rides better IMHO.
I just need to get mine mapped!

I really like that. The engine is solid and I have it in a GLC and its nice and effortlessly torquey. The only diesel I've had that bettered it for me was the 3 litre twin turbo diesel that I had in a 640d(same engine as the 335d/535d). https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
