Really could do with some advice about whether to buy the lower petrol option or the lower diesel option?! I really want the petrol version but am dubious. Has anyone had one and if so how was it?! Looking at. 2010 model over the weekend and needed some advice on what to look for?! Many thanks in advance for any well needed advice given

What makes you dubious? What are your criteria?

I can’t really find much info on ownership of one that’s 7-8 years old. And whether there’s anything to look out for when buying one?!

The general consensus is they are pretty reliable, with very few problems or issues. The normal caveat's apply though and whilst you may be spending 20k to get one, you are not running a 20k car.

I have a 7yo Turbo S & it's faultless & like new. Checking the history it's not had any issues.

Usual checks - water drains in the rear lid and under the bonnet/plenum panels; make sure no water in the boot or under carpets (very thick foam hides it well).

Engines on both are reliable; though diesels can suffer oil leaks (expensive to sort but covered under a Warranty if you have one).

Ride well on 20's; air is a good option but compressors can fail - check for it constantly running during normal driving (small leaks).

Thanks Pope, didn’t have the leak check on my list! Pretty sure the petrol is the way to go now mainly for the performance and sound aspect!!

Actually, I had Panamera D on loan a few years ago c.2016 (facelift generation) and I was very impressed by the real world performance, sporting sound and excellent fuel economy of the Diesel engine.
It did feel ‘big’ - especially around town (more so than a Cayenne or Macan).
If I was buying one I’d definitely want it with the Extended Warranty.

Panamera is actually less wide than a Cayenne (5cm) and only 1cm wider than a Macan. It is longer (and lower, which is important) than both, though.

My Turbo's coming up to 10 years old (almost the first in the country) and feels and looks like new, still.

a bit late to the party but work & all that smile

I have recently become a 1st time Pan owner & went through exactly the same thoughts about V6 petrol or diesel.

Read lots & although the petrol does appear a touch quicker (& may well be a better car ?) I decided on the diesel simply because I was sure 40mpg would be easy to get, and it is on a run. Mid 30's on local work is normal for me.

2012 250bhp version - the perfomance doesn't set the world on fire but it's a bit quicker than the 3 litre XF I had before it. Build quality, handling & driving is on another level to the Jag (and the XF is a pretty nice machine). Mine is on 20" / 35 profile & I expected a bone shattering ride - completely wrong, it is very close to XF ride comfort.

Only had it a month or so & it's awesome, love it.

From everything I have read, they seem reliable but I guess repairs are going to sting a bit. If money was no object, the new V8d would be on my radar smile

Great to hear that advice, thanks. I can’t really find a bad word said about them anywhere apart from some find the look ugly which I understand but completely disagree and being rare to see on the road makes them all the more special. Glad it’s all you hoped it would be 👌🏻

Panamera - ugly....

I have read all that too, but only one person has told me that. Maybe they all feel sorry for me, being an ugly bugger myself & having an ugly car.

I am shocked at how many comments it gets from people of all ages. So far, I am pleased I spent the money (took a hit on the Jag too),

To sum it up (in my little brain).... a 5 series is nicely engineered but bland, the jag is "special" but not as well engineered, the Panamera is well engineered and feels special smile

OP - just seen you are in Cambs, if you want to have a look around the Pan anytime, just pop over, we can't be far apart

I still get asked if mine is "the new model". It was one of the first Turbos in the country (10 years old soon).

Never had anything go wrong with it and the interior is way better than anything this side of a Bentley.

I envy you, the turbo is an awesome monster of a car smile I did consider the V8's but fuel is my biggest concern as mine is used as our own car but also for the business. A friend of mine said "the Jag was OK, nice car, but this thing is just special" I think that sums up the pan, even a basic oil burner makes every journey a touch more pleasant.
