I’m wondering whether the population density of s is centred more in the South East UK than elsewhere in the UK or globally. Sure tossers exist everywhere across the geographic population but in general, driving around I’ve noticed they are far more prevalent in the South East UK areas rather than most others or oop North. Anecdotal of course, and perhaps I’m wrong as personal experience is never definitive but in terms of going out of their way to block you in, trying to car jack you and stab you or to trying to get you fined for stopping across a yellow box I really do think southern drivers have a special skill in being absolute tts. Now I appreciate this is pure generalism based on particular experiences and crowded roads always bring out the worst in people but having driven everywhere from Central America to India to the M4 corridor I really do think drivers of the south east of the UK deserve a particular award for going one step beyond.

  • not based on a particular incident, but more a lifetime spent driving all over the world.
  • I reside in the south east, people in glass houses etc..
  • * SidewaysSi is based in London... this post is not just about him though...

I was in Asda (I know) on Monday night

Some people in their 50s took great delight in letting go of their trolley and letting it roll towards some parked cars

Thankfully I was just getting out of my car (they didn’t realise I’d been sat in it for a few mins playing on my phone) and could grab it before it hit stuff

They looks more disappointed than embarrassed

I find sitting in a car and watching the world go by can be depressing watching people drop litter etc

The simple answer is yes, there are more Tossers in the SE. If I drive north, people become more relaxed (except in Bradford), and for example less inclined to race you away from traffic lights. By the time you reach Scotlandshire. drivers are more chilled.

Part of the problem is the horrific congestion everywhere, the me me me premium generation and the expansion of the Bruv population.

My wife is Scottish, she says the same tbh. She was actually quite shocked at how ttish people were on the roads down here. Too many cars and inflated sense of self importance contributing factors imo.

I can remember the days when the M25 was an exciting new route. Today it has to be factored in as an obstruction.

Geordies and noticeably better friendlier and more laid back drivers I have noticed. Always refreshing to drive around up there. SE is full of scum who have radiated out from London. The bruv generation sums it up well as another poster put it. A special shout out for the dribbling retards of Kent and their own special version of the highway code which they expect all the other drivers to adhere to.
The M25 needs to have some sort of hazmat squad with huge cranes at Evey junction. Too often there is an enormous closure for a crash or some description that renders the whole thing a disaster. UK productivity is shockingly low and taking 24 hrs to clear a crashed oil tanker out of some woods by the road doesn't help.

20 years ago in my case, but otherwise identical.

You can genuinely see the traffic behaviours deteriorating as you pass High Wycombe...

Do miss the easy access to London and some decent beaches though...

I live just outside the M25 and work just whithin it (Surrey) and I agree there seem to be alot more tts around this area than if you branch out further away, regardless of direction.

I think just because it's so busy here on the roads, everyone seems just so more stressed and busy and want to go about their business as quickly and as "fk everyone else" as possible, I can notice a change very quickly as soon as I either drive away from this area; to go on holiday for example, or return back from being away for a week or so.

Funny thing is when away, I do kind of miss the busyness af it all.

Is this a class thing or does it transcend certain classes?
I have noticed bad behaviour on the roads in the SE as well.
The more shocking have always been from those drivers due to the newness and value of their cars I assumed would know better.

Don't get me started on the littering done by people from their cars!

My experience of people with flashy (but non performance ) Mercs BMW’s Audi’s etc is they are on tick and can’t really afford it

If you go round the new build estate near me, it’s like a bloody German car show room, nothing usually older than 3 years

Then I walk past the nice houses set back from the main road, they all have Peugeot 406 / Mazda bongos and nothing that new

Clearly I’ve probably exaggerated the above

I have lived in the South for twenty years and am getting to the end of my tether.

it is dirty, congested and just too busy.

The people depend on where you live, I have lived in places most call dumps and met the nicest people in day to day life, places like Stevenage, always enjoyed my time there bizarrely, yet other places like Hitchin or St Albans have met some real arses.

Driving down here is utterly miserable and being here has totally lost my interest in it, I used to love cars and driving, now I have to really want to go somewhere busy to actually do it, if I know it's busy I simply can't be arsed to deal with mindless Africans and Asians, Eastern European lorry and van drivers and aggressive builders in vans with sneering tossers in the passenger seats.

I am from the saff east but live in the Midlands. I go back fairly regularly and prefer it down there. But without question people are more arsey and angry down there.

I guess the problem is that the population density in the SE is greater, which means the density of tts is greater resulting in you running in to them more often.

There was a time when you could go for a Sunday morning drive and the roads would be fairly quiet. Not any more.

Ah, an admitted car park lurker.

I see them all the time, blokes alone, why do you sit alone in your car, engine running, are you waiting for someone ?

Stalking someone ?

Bored, lonely ?

People watching ?

Go inside the supermarket, there are people there who you can talk to if you are lonely.

our daughter has moved up to Crewe and some good friends to the Wirral and Cheshire respectively - the difference in driving, people... well pretty much everything is staggering compared to the SE. As soon as we can we're going further away - somewhere less busy and full of bruvs/cunits
