Weird not starting problem
Discussion
Need to ideas to sort this on Thurs/Friday as I am supposed to be racing at Elvington come the weekend.
I had the plugs out and doing a few checks but when I went to turn it over for a compression test there is nothing from the key.
The dash doesn't light up and nothing at all from the fuel pump or starter.
I had the battery disconnected overnight and when I reconnected and turned the key the fuel pump sounded and the dash lit up just the once. As soon as I turned the key off and tried back on again.... nothing!
So I need ideas or to bring the car to someone who knows how to sort electrical gremlins this Friday. If I don't fix it it will still be put on the trailer and taken to Elvington anyway.

Double check the battery terminations Derek inc the one you have not disturbed , I suspect this however ........ check the main fuse near the batt inc the fuse for integrty, if you lose power here it takes out instruments etc inc ign switch functions
Cheers Simon. I will check all the fuses but find it strange it didn't work, then did momentarily then didn't again. My battery is in the boot and the cables, terminals etc are all fairly new and in good condition.
I'm with Simon on the 80amp fuse.
It is in the footwell in a black holder in the spaghetti.
I am guessing you got a bit of a spark when reconnecting the battery and it blew this fuse, which is there to protect all that stuff near to it.
Like the 100 amp fuse under the car, if you still have the blade type you will need to take it out (?8mm spanner) to check it hasn't got a hairline crack.
The other quite common fail is the ignition switch itself. It's Vauxhall I think, but cannot tell you which Vauxhall.

Steve is this the relay with the two broad power pins like pic that you speak of? 70A IIRC only they give lots of nag on the VAG cars too , common to 80's models onward's to recent 00's changed more than I care to remember over the years due to random/int failures followed by total failure and tow-in

they seldom play ball when misbehaving , check your powers and grounds where they are expected you'll crack it
