Hi,

Hopefully an easy question to answer but maybe not smile

What is the tax situation with a cash gift from Spain to family in the UK? Does it need to be declared in the UK and have tax paid on it? If so, what kind of %? It has already had tax paid in Spain.

Thank you

Usually the only concern about taxation on gifts is inheritance tax. UK taxpayers can't gift large sums just before they pop their clogs in an attempt to avoid IHT.

I've no idea how the Spanish system works, but an expat living in Spain could still be UK domiciled for tax purposes.

Thank you, I see there is some sort of sliding scale with regards to IHT but wasn't sure if the tax paid in Spain thing would make a difference.
